The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
I have a sponsor, I've worked the 12 steps (and continue to work it every day!!), and I live the solution in my life everyday. It's amazing how there is never a shortage of opportunities to use my nifty new al-anon tools. Life is funny that way, isn't it?
Anyway, I have been to a few al-anon meetings (meaning two meetings ) but I don't have a home group. My sponsor's sponsor is an AA and we both go to an open AA meeting every week but as far as finding an al-anon meeting it just hasn't happened yet.
I'm planning on going to an afternoon meeting in my town this week to check it out and see if it's a good fit for me.
What has been your experience with finding a home group? Did it take you a while to find one that "fit"? And any other experiences surrounding the importance of fellowship in al-anon would be much apperciated!
Thank you!

Aloha Amiee...maybe you're just more comfortable on the AA side and Al-Anon participation and commitment isn't so important? I'm what is referred to as a "double" a member of both programs which started with Al-Anon and then included AA too. I have a home group on both sides. I also live the steps on a constant basis and did so before entering AA. So far it's worked for me very well. I wouldn't screw up my life for anyones happiness and I've been able to keep away from a relapse into drinking.
If you can't find a home group in your area...create one. ((((hugs))))
By the way thanks to the Kennebunk(?) District for the Love gift of a candle in a little balm tin. If you're not in that district I'll contact them direct.

Thanks Jerry! Nope, Kennebunk isn't my area, but that sounds like a lovely gift :0)
Anyone else? I'm surprised by the lack of responses to this topic.... maybe it's not so unusual to not have a home group? Maybe I'm jumping to conclusions? (very possible! that's what I do! :0)
I wasn't on this weekend, so I just now saw this. I have one meeting I can get to a week, and that is becoming my home group. It works out to be a great group :) There are a few other meetings I can get to, but this happens to be the most conveinent to my schedule. Anyway, I also go to an open AA when I can with my bf. I don't have a sponsor yet, I have been listening at my meeting really good though and have two contacts I can call. There are a few men in our alanon group that are double winners, and a few moms, a dad, few wives and few girlfriends...Its nice to have a group that is so diverse :) Its a great feeling to know I have the meeting and the people to call :)
