Subject: RE: Literature Question

Dear Tori,

Greetings again from your World Service Office.  Im writing back regarding your question (and my response) about the four Gs or five Gs, because Step Ten has taught me that when I find out Im wrong I need to promptly admit it!

As the quotation on yesterdays page (122) in Hope for Today (B-27) pointed out to me, did once include Five Gs in Al-Anon in Conference Approved Literature.  Apparently a member once wrote a sharing including them in The Forum magazine prior to 1980.  This was excerpted on page 142 of Forum Favorites, Volume 4 (B-9d), which was published in 1993 and discontinued in 1999 due to lack of interest.

The quotation in Hope for Today states, Get off his back.  Get out of his way.  Get onto yourself. Get to meetings.  Give him to God.  It is not referred to as the Five Gs in Hope for Today, but I thought I should point out that I was mistaken when I sent my earlier response.  Although I had certainly read it before, it completely slipped my mind.  My apologies.

I hope this additional information is helpful, Tori.  Best wishes for continued peace and serenity in the Al-Anon program.

Dear Tori,

Greetings from your World Service Office.  Thanks for your question about the four Gs or five Gs.

I have never heard of either the four Gs or five Gs.  Nor has anyone else here that I have asked.  Our members become quite creative with memory devices such as these, and I have heard of several others, the most well-known being the three As and the three Cs.  Some of these are probably regional, or might come from outside our program.

Because our Conference Approved Literature is translated into over 30 languages, and such terms are extremely difficult to translate, we tend to avoid using them in our literature.  (Even the three Cs is usually written out and not referred to as such.)

I hope this information is helpful, Tori.  Best wishes for continued peace and serenity in the Al-Anon program.

Yours in Service,

Tom

Subject: Literature Question

Hello;
Recently started participating in online meetings.
Al-Anon's 4 G's was the topic of the meeting the other night. Someone else said it was the 5 G's and neither worded their G's the same.
I have never heard of these before and asked where I could find them in our literature. I was told they were heard at a meeting...
Do we have 4 G's or 5 G's and if so where can I find them.
Thank you for your service.

 Tori
