detachment

My loved one binge drinks and he has been on one for over a week.  Fortunately, he is away - so I haven't had to see him.  I was quite upset earlier this week- but went to a
F to F meeting on Wed and my higher power just got the detachment thing going for me.  I'm staying out of it.  My son who is a recovering alcoholic with 1o + years sobriety went to his dad and offered to take him to a meeting.  Supposedly they are going tonight.  But- and this is the kicker- if he doesn't I'm handlng it.  I'm not crying- not angry- not badgering him on the phone, etc.  He texted last night and told me he was going to a meeting with our son, and I texted back "that's good".  Nothing else.  I'm feeling proud of myself and thanking my higher power for my serenity!  Thanks for listening/ reading.

Great detaching, working your program, and taking care of yourself first.

The meetings are such a gift, you brought your willingness and HP did the rest... I have goosebumps!!

I've always loved an acronym for DETACH, and I just thought I'd share it:

Don't
Even
Think
About
Changing
Him/Her

When I determine to try and change someone, I'm playing God, and that's insane. The person who really needs changing is ME.

Thanks for a great post! Well done

That is an awesome acronym!!!!  I have a wonderful article on detachment I received a couple of years ago from an addiction psychologist.  Wish that was in the article.  You have just helped me so much.
