My brother has been on a binge since Wednesday where he can't talk, and can barely walk. He'll get plastered, pass out, then walk down to the store after he wakes up to get more beer, and the cycle starts all over again. I got a call from someone on the street last night that said he knocked on their door to see if they would take him to the store becuase it was raining, and she said no. She said he was staggering up the street. If you try to stop him, he wants to fight.

I called his PO, but when he went to see him, he was sober enough to fool the PO. This is insane. I don't think he wants to live, but he's chicken to die. Hopefull his PO will catch him in the act today or tomorrow.

Hi NCSU

I am so sorry.  The situation really sounds very familar to me.  I am glad the neighbor did not drive him  My son's neighbors would drive him, go for him or drink with him.

Please pray for him and focus on yourself.

Praying for your peace.

Sorry to hear... Believe me he won't be able to fool his PO for to much longer
Best for you to stay out of his way
I got a call one time from a woman at a convience store that my son was wandering around completely incoherent. She was able to get his phone off him to call us at home. She asked if we wanted to come pick him up. It was awful.... i had to take a moment to gather my thoughts and then advised the lady to just call 911 we would not be coming. You've no idea how painful that decision was. She did call 911 he was taken to the hospital.... we recieved then a call from the hospital that he was sober enough to be released would we come get him. Again we said no, he had a bus pass and had 2 legs to walk on he could get himself home.
I cried the whole day. My son finally walked through the door acting as if nothing had happened. No excuses, no apologies nothing. it was the start for me to get out of his way. It is a painful process but anything we would have done would have just enabled his disease.
I know how hard this is for you, i am not sure when it gets easier. I can only live it one day sometimes one minute at a time
Blessings

I am so sad for you both. You just suffered a terrible loss and are both grieving.

I too am afraid for your brother. Addicts are such hard people to love. I mean we love them, but their illness is killing them. We can see it, but they cannot, and or are too sick to care.

We can grab them up, put them in rehab, but it only gives them some time sober. We can do intervetions with the best of hope.

Most are honestly too sick to help themselves, and they are the only ones who can.

If someone calls we may want to tell them we cannot control them so please don't call to tell me what he is doing. What does it do but upset us?

I did all the dumb stuff before I knew Al Anon. Took him to er, took him to detox, rehab, NEVER did any good, never. Just wasted my energy. He sure found a way to get back home real quick to mommies to use more.

If we can put our energy in to going to meetings face to face and here, going to the chat room ,message board, reading literature, then taking care of ourselves, it will help us stay away from the A.

We need to have fun, do happy things, keep busy, nap. See other loved ones, visit friends.

Us allowing their disease to make us sick to is a waste of another human being! We don't want our light being put out by their being in a pit.

I wish I could share something that we all wish we could share, an answer as to what we can directly do for them. The only thing is to take care of ourselves.

Sending love to you and yours, debilyn
