First I would like to say you have found the right place. Members here will offer their ES&H (experience, strength, and, hope). What has worked for them while dealing with the disease of alcoholism. It's a cunning, baffling, and powerful disease that destroys the mind, body, and spirit of the alcoholic. Al-Anon is for anyone who has been effected by the disease. We all qualify. Without help we become as sick or sicker than the alcoholic in our life.

There is no quick fix, but the program will give you the tools to make your life better whether the alcoholic in your life is drinking or not. Listen and apply what the program tells you, because Al-Anon has been around for over 60 years...it is proven and tested.

If you can't find a meeting near you we have two online meeting each day here on MIP. The information and times can be found by clicking on "Al-Anon Group Meeting" at the top of this page.

If you would like you could again and tell us about yourself and your situation. Then others will reply to you post and offer their ES&H to help you on your road to recovery.

I am glad you found us, keep coming back, this program will change your life for the better.........and guess what?.........Your not alone anymore.

HUGS,
RLC

Aloha New n Lost...Welcome to the family and I agree with Abbyal and RLC...You're
New...so this will take sitting down and reading and rereading suggestions and coming
up with questions and getting feedback and reading more and then practicing some
of what you read and hear...It is what we do and have done cause all of use came in
with your same announcement..."Hi, I'm new and lost."

You are in the right place.   Go to afgwso.org and click their literature list and get an
idea how much of it is available for you to read.  Meetings will have some of it for no
cost to the newcomer and other cost are reasonable especially in light of how much
of your mind, body, spirit and emotions they can save.

Keep coming back here.  You are not alone...we are here for you and for each other.
Pull up a chair you're home!!   (((((hugs))))) smile

Try and post something about yourself and what your going thru.

Odds are we have been there too. This is a program for the spouses, girlfriends and family members of an active alcoholic.

Keep coming back , you may ask anything of us.

Wishing you courage and strength.

 Welcome So Lost

You have received valuable information in answer to your qustion where do I start and what do I need to know

I would like to answer the question, what to say and what can help

.  Alanon meetings both the face to face in your community and online meetings here are most vital to your well being and peace of mind.

It is in these meetings that we share what is "in our Mind and Hearts".  This is how we help one another in alanon.  This sharing allows us to Break the isolation, connect with others, learn that we are not alone, learn to focus on ourselves and our needs and feelings and learn new construct tools to live by.

Please join us, share your heart, we will listen and you will grow

Keep coming back

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome and replies. I couldn't read it all clearly with the water dripping from my eyes. I truly hope I am in the right place.

My son as a drug problem (pills), that I know for sure. I am not sure about drinking. From what I have been told, alcohol is also considered a drug and so the two are similar. This has been going on for several years. I know it is his choice but I do feel responsible. He is finally in a rehab program and doing well there. It concerns me how he will act when he isn't in that controlled environment. He too worries about going back to his old ways and how he can be strong enough without all the support he now gets.

As you have all guessed it has torn my family apart. I am the only one who has faith in him turning around. I am the one who constantly reminds him of all the good he has inside of him in hopes one day he will see it too. It has taken a huge toll on me and I have no one to discuss it with. My close friends know nothing as I am too embarrassed to tell them. Besides I try to be positive and this brings me down.

Hi So Lost....welcome, glad you found us. What you wrote is what brought me here.  I isolated and eventually became ill with it all.

My son is an alcoholic and just like you I found this board when I was desparate and googling for help. The love understanding and support found here picked me up of my knees and continues to keep me from falling back onto them. I was given the same suggestions as you are now and I also go to Al-anon meetings when I can. My life has improved and yours will too. Please keep coming back.

In support

(((((hugs)))))

Ness
