I just got back home from spending the weekend in San Antonio at the 2010 AA International Conference.
A - Maz - ing!!!!
This was my first one, and I hope it will not be my last!
I was absolutely overwelmed by the number of people walking around downtown San Antonio wearing the conference badge. We were everywhere! I heard there was over 60,000 of my brothers and sisters in recovery there, though I haven't heard the actual final count.
It was congested. It was crowed. It rained on us Friday. It was humid. It was fantastic.
I wonder when or if San Antonio has ever experienced any thing like this before. So many, many people getting along. 10's of thousands together sharing a common bond. I saw nothing but people helping each other, smiling, sharing. I was never alone.
Friday and Saturday nights I gathered with the family in the Alamodome for the Big Meetings, and let me tell you they were big!!!
Friday night's opening flag ceremony had 90 people from all over the world carrying their nations flag across the stage representing AA in their country. Awesome.
Fabulous speakers.
People from all over the world sharing and loving each other. People from countries that outside of our fellowship are not friendly. Everyone cheering for every country regardless of political differences.
If the rest of the world knew and embraced this way of life...how different would this planet be?
I attended some great Al-Anon meetings with rooms set up for 600 people.
I even had the courage to get up at one, go up to the mike and share. The meeting was on opening our hearts to humor. I had too! And for those of you who know my "screw" story....it is international now!!
Welp as you can tell, I am still riding high on the pink cloud of spirtuality from this event. I am exhausted. But it is a good exhaustion!
If you have never been to an AA International convention, I highly recommend you go, if you ever have the opportunity. I believe the next one is going to be in Atlanta, Georgia in 2015.
Hope to see you there!!
Happy 4th of July and Bless you all for helping to teach me this way of living!
Awwww David's been blessed...Awe - some!! I'm glad you stood up for humor and I'm wondering if that was the Howmany and lightbulb story. PM me it pleeeeze!!
Yeah David , this is the first International that I have missed in 24 yrs since finding this program , I know exactly how your feeling right now . overloaded , exausted and grateful .. We decided not to go this time because of the heat , I have thought about it all weekend and was kinda sad that i didnt venture off in spite of the heat , but u mentioned humidity that did it , I would have hated it . hehe.
I love that the screw story is now international ..cuz it's so damn good..LOL! Glad you had a great time..ride the cloud for as long as you can. And yes, it would be a wonderful world if everyone could get just a taste of what they are missing.
Be the change!!

Glad you had a rockin' time! For the sake of the newbies I ask that you repost the screw story. It's an MIP classic. Good for you for telling that story. Enjoy being home with da' boys. I know how cranky Pipers can get when I stay away all day lone enough a few. Much love & blessings to you & your family.

So glad to hear it was fun. I've got several friends who went and I can't wait until they get back to share their stories.
I love the thought of thinking how peaceful the world could be if everyone united in fellowship like they do at the International.
Hope to make it some day. Remember Al-Anoners - the Al-Anon international is going to be in Vancouver in 2013! And I hear rumor they're planning to overtake a cruise ship and do an Inside Passage cruise!
