Brother who drinks and drives

Hi, I'm new to the forum.

A lot of my family members have drinking problems and I now live far away from them.  My older brother has gotten one DUI and I just learned that he's continuing to drink and drive.  I'm worried he'll hurt someone, and himself.  I don't have that much contact with him anymore, don't know what I could do, but feel like I ought to do something.  What should I do?  What can I do?

Thanks a lot for anyone's help.

Hello and welcome , what can u do ?  Nothing we cannot control other people .
He is responsible for the decissions he makes he knows the law but chooses to continue to drink and drive anyway , until he is held responsible for his own actions nothing will change .. i would like to encourge you to find Al-Anon meetings for yourself u will learn about this disease and how it has affected your life , how to not become involved in his problem ..  you will meet people who understand exactly how u feel and will share thier own experiences with you.. you need support from people who understand .. call 1-888-4alanon it is toll free international number they will give you the location of the nearest meeting in your area and a contact number ..  good luck louise

Hi KG and thank you for your post.
I too have a brother that drinks and drives.  Sadly enough there isnt a thing any of us can do until something happens as a result of his choices.  Hopefully he wont kill himself or any innocent person in his path.  Learning about addiction and some alanon meetings are a great suggestion and I agree with the previous post.  We are more effected by anothers drinking than we even realize.  Blessings and glad your here :)

KG

I sure have walked in your shoes many times
Reality is that we have no control over anyones else's actions but our own.
One of the first things we learn here in alanon are the 3 C's
We didn't cause it
We can't control it
We can't cure it
None of us is that powerful. If we were there would be no more alcholics or addicts in the world.
I suggest you try our program and find out how to deal with the feelings you have and how to live in a peaceful manner no matter what the alcholic is doing.
This program is for you as we tend to become so entrenched with what the alcholics/addicts are doing with thier lives we often lose our own identities. By the time I found this program I was pretty sure I was sicker than my son who is an addict.
This program saved my life both literally and figeritively ( spelling)
Welcome and please keep coming back
