The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
I have recently become sober -- 6 weeks--and I would like my husband to attend an Al-Anon meeting. I am not sure how he feels about going alone to a meeting. My father is a recovering alcoholic for 10 years, does that mean I can also attend with my husband?
Alanon mtgs are for anyone that has been effected by another's drinking or drug use. You can only control and change YOU, same with your husband. But, sure u can attend with him, as long as it is an open meeting and no one else there minds. (Each group has its own idiosynchrosies, in other words all groups are self governing and there might be slight differences). Just like your AA/NA mtgs, the chemistry is different based on who attends them.
I tried to get my mom to attend alanon mtgs for 25 yrs - she wasnt interested and she still isnt. The more u try to convince someone of soemthing, the less likely they are willing to try it. I would focus on how you can help your own recovery - what you can do to change you. Your husband may or may not want to get help on his own. It is up to each of us individually. Good luck with your sobriety and welcome to MIP.
We do have a chat room that hosts two daily mtgs, if that would be of interst to either of you.
Chat Room Meeting schedule: Monday-Friday...9 am and 9 pm EST, Saturday: 10am, 9pm EST(newcomers)and 9pm EST, Sunday: 10am and 7pm EST. _____ UK +5 hours, central -1 hour, mountain -2 hours, pacific -3 hours. Open chat all other times.

Hello and congratulations for choosing sobriety , you may be a little raw yet to attend an Al-Anon meeting , keep AA your priority .. Your husb is old enough to go to a meeting alone besides u both need space to share from your heart with both of you in the room tht probably won't happen . Ask hubby if he wants to support your sobriety the best way in my opinion is to have our own program , that keeps us busy taking care of ourselves giving us less time to try and direct your life .. hehe Good luck Louise
