It has been a terrible weekend, we had a day of strongs storms here and a friend of mine died while trying to get into her storm shelter, she fell and hit her head and it was fatal. I loved her and had known her for more than thirty years, she was a wonderful person.
Another friend of mine from high school, her 33 year old nephew overdosed and passed away. Our Sunday School class was discussing how terrible his passing was and said drugs is such a problem in our country and that no one is immune. Then a lady said she knew what should be done about the drug problem, give them the death penalty, that would make anyone think twice before they start taking drugs.
I was just shocked, I didn't say anything for a moment then I just reminded her that these drug addicts are some one's son, daughter, husband, wife. Is that really what we want to do as a society to people that are caught up in addiction?
She has a beautiful granddaughter that is growing up, I pray she doesn't have to live it so that she will understand the pain you go through without anyone pouring salt into a wound.
As for the Statement about what to do with addicts... Well... Those that don't know what it is like to LOVE or BE an Addict really don't have the grounds to decide what is best for them... With me being in recovery that would have kicked me in the stomach as well, however... With Me Being IN My Program... I know that the ignorance of those that isn't... Is just that...
Don't sweat the small stuff... Thanks for Coming back :)
sad sad sad , little does the lady know that the addict already has a death penalty that he works- on a daily basis .. I am sorry for the loss of your friend , friends are a rare comodity , remember the good times . Louise
I am so sorry for the loss of your very good friend and the young man .
It is painful to hear un enlightened remarks from people who do not know the disease of addiction . Being powerless over others , I have learned to just let it go
