Some signs and symptoms of inner peace:

  • A tendency to think and act spontaneously rather than on fears based on past experiences.
  • An unmistakable ability to enjoy each moment.
  • A loss of interest in judging other people.
  • A loss of interest in judging self.
  • A loss of interest in interpreting the actions of others.
  • A loss of interest in conflict.
  • A loss of the ability to worry. (This is a very serious symptom.)
  • Frequent, overwhelming episodes of appreciation.
  • Contented feelings of connectedness with others and nature.
  • Frequent attacks of smiling.
  • An increasing tendency to let things happen rather than make them happen.
  • An increased susceptibility to the love extended by others as well as the uncontrollable urge to extend it.

WARNING:

If you have some or all of the above symptoms, please be advised that your condition of inner peace may be so far advanced as to not be curable. If you are exposed to anyone exhibiting any of these symptoms, remain exposed only at your own risk.

If I Had my Child To Raise Over Again

If I Had my Child To Raise
Over Again
(

IF I had my child to raise all over again,

I'd build self-esteem first, and the house later.

I'd finger paint more, and point the finger less.

I would do less correcting and more connecting.

I'd take my eyes off my watch, and watch with my eyes.

I would care to know less and know to care more.

I'd take more hikes and fly more kites.

I'd stop playing serious, and seriously play.

I would run through more fields and gaze at more stars,

I'd do more hugging and less tugging.

I'd see the oak tree in the acorn more often,

I would be firm less often, and affirm much more.

I'd model less about the love of power,

And more about the power of love.

These are just perfect John....I especially like the "If I Had my Child To Raise
Over Again". I am considering copying it and adding some artwork to give to my daughter for her birthday with a couple extra lines to let her know that I am not perfect...but I believe despite my 'imperfect mommy skills"....she turned out OK anyway. :o)

Thank you for all you do!

((John)) thank you that was wonderful.. I am always amazed how I hear the things just when I am supposed to.  Just this morning I woke up and thought ...how do I really know I am recovering...I think I am, but how do I REALLY KNOW..  i was thinking about my attitude and how my perceptions have changed with so many things....This was exactly what i needed to hear...Thanks for sharing that with us...loved it !!!!

((( John )))

Thanks so much for both posts !
The first one shows me I AM making progress and am so grateful for that
The second one If I had to to raise my child over again brought tears to my eyes
As the mother of an addict I so relate and fully intend to send that on to my son
and maybe it will help him out a little to know that had I known any better when he was young and had I found my recovery early on in life that all our lives would have been so much different.

Thanks again

I really liked those markers bc I can see how very far Ive come.  I realized in program, during the year I spent doing forgiveness work -- that as an adult we have these choices to heal and self parent our inner childs.  I can see I have done that with myself and I can realte to appreciating this poem, for validating that self parenting work and knowing I have and am doing an honorable job.

Having done all that forgiveness work, too, allows me to appreciate the great relationship I did have with my mom as a child and not fixate on the time it went bad (for me) and alientated/emotionally negelcted feeeling at around ten y/o (from then on I practically raised myself).

Thanks, this is a new realization - of the appreciation I can have.
