Ok I realize that this is off the subject of Aism....but..... I was wondering if anyone out there has used any of those credit card debt consolidation companies. You can private message me if you want. I have been contemplating them for a while to help me with the credit card debt I have gotten myself in since dealing w/my exAH/bf's addictions, divorce & lack of child support. I am just nervous about them. And there are so many out there. I just don't which ones are legite & which are not.
If it were me I would place a call to the Better Business Bureau in your city , see if they can help or perhaps B B B has a web site where u can check for yourself. good luck or talk to your bank they often offer the same services , councling to help u get out of debt ..after all all they want is your money hehe.

There are SO many fly-by-night services out there, and I've heard horror stories of people signing up for these services and sending them money, but not one cent went to actually pay their bills. I would urge you to do your homework thoroughly, investigate whoever you might do business with, and read the fine print carefully. I think it would even be worth a lawyer's fee to read a contract before you sign anything. Going through some of these so-called "debt relief" agencies could actually be worse for your credit than paying late. Be careful!
I hear ya both on that. I already checked w/my bank & I don't have enough equity in my home to get a home equity loan. For an unsecured loan, the interest rate would be +/-16%. Most of my debt is on 1 card @ 8%. I just have another card that went from 6% balance transfer rate to 20%. So now I am accruing $90 in finance charges every month. That is the one that has me worried.
I have heard horror stories also about the debt consolidation companies & that was why I was putting feelers out. I don't trust the B.B.B. either. Contrary to popular belief, they are not a government run company. They are a business just like anyone else trying to make money and they are not always accurate in their reporting.
Reckon I will just continue to plug away and hopefully I will be out of debt before I die of old age!
Hmmm well I used to do that as well Carolinagirl BUT unfortunately I am not receiving regular child support b/c my A has gone back to school full time and doesn't send it in very often. Soooooo, I have to hold on to my refund to float my bills month to month so I am not late on anything. I am HOPING that the child support people will intercept my A's refund for his past due acct. He is getting more than enough to pay it. We shall see.
I have never used them, but I work in the collections field and the advise I have been given is to look for the non profits. They are the most trustworthy.
