Thank you Canadian Guy!

((((((Family)))),

Just wanted to give a GREAT BIG SHOUT OUT thank you to Canadian Guy.  His offer of Toby Rice Drews' book was a wonderful help to a dear friend. I got her the book Getting Them Sober.  She was a little intimated by Alanon.  But after reading her book she understood what was going on with her husband.  She is now not afraid to go to Alanon.  She said that the book was a great stepping stone into the world of recovery.  Or as she put it to me: Toby's book was like stepping into the wading pool of recovery instead of jumping off into the deep end.  She insists that she was already off the deep end and didn't need anymore help getting there! wink

Even though I did not purchase the book from CG.  Your offer is very  generous.  I hope it will remain here as part of the MIP family.  It may not be a WSO book, but it does not mean that it can't help someone.  My friend is proof positive of that. smile

Once again THANK YOU so much for your kind heart and generoist.  MIP is a much better place with you here.  Your hard work, dedication and service here does not go unnoticed nor unappreciated.  Much love and blessings to you and your family.

Live strong,
Karilynn & Pipers Kitty heart.gif

Thanks for the feedback Karilynn.....  I couldn't agree more, about the value of this book - it has been such a wonderful resource for so many thousands of people - and it really does pave the way for so many of us....  I don't think I "got" the whole Al-Anon, recovery, how sick I really was, how my situation was NOT normal, etc - until I found this book.....

Toby will also be thrilled with this feedback - she has dedicated her life to helping people, and has written several books on the subject (I own most of them!)

Yours in recovery

Tom

And here is a reply, direct from Toby, along with a bit more background on the good that the GTS books do for people, including encouraging them towards Al-Anon....

T

(message from Toby)

hi Tom, thank you for passing that on!     A little background-----   after the first book was published in 1980, the woman here who was in charge of Al-Anon answering service, called me (her name was Elsie) and told me that she had tracked for 6 years, asking people who called (in Baltimore), what motivated them to call Al-Anon.  She said 5 out of 6 people answered that they read the book, and that got them to join Al-Anon. .......

This kind of feedback does help keep us going......... thank you again..........blessings, Toby

Wow!  Karilynn..  A famous author read your words.  That's pretty cool eh?
There are many roads to recovery.  I'm glad your friend found her way through this book to Al anon.
