The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
I read something in todays Courage to Change that really struck me, and I wanted to share it with yall and hopefully any newcomers because I have found it to be so true. on page 33/Feb. 2nd it says (in part):
When I came to Al-Anon, I found alot of people who had decided to climb down from their ladders into a circle of fellowship. In the circle we were all on equal terms, and God was right in the center, easily accessible. When newcomers arrived we didnt worry about rearranging everyones position, we simply widened the circle.
I love that passage also. It's such a good feeling to see a newcomer come into the rooms of Al-Anon not knowing which way to turn, then after their first meeting realize they have found the right place and a new family who has been walking in their shoes, and willing to give back and share their ES&H with no strings attached. I saw that very thing happen at my meeting last night.
One of the most important benefits of this program is knowing that you don't have to be alone anymore. To see the calm that comes over the newcomers and watch them leave with a smile of their face .......rather than tears running down their face.... says it all. What a difference one hour in the rooms of Al-Anon can make.-----------Priceless.!!
My sponsor once asked me what was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. I said something ordinary like a sunset and then I asked him what the most beautiful thing he had ever seen was. He said it was the look of hope in a newcomer's eyes when he or she realized they were no longer alone.
Thanks Suzi for reminding me of that.
