That Heavy Phone

Why is it that I have such a hard time picking up the phone and calling my Al-Anon friends when times get tough?

I'll call my parents, my cousin, my friends. . . but not my program friends.

I know that they are the ones I SHOULD be calling, but I just can't bring myself to do it.

WHY?

Any suggestions on how to get over this hurdle in my recovery?

p.s. Don't have a sponsor yet and I know I need one.

I always do the reversies thing. How would you feel if  you gave out your number and someone felt comfy enough to call you?

Anything new is a challenge, but challenge is so good for us! hugs, debilyn

The phone is also a 1000 lbs for me.
But I am beginning to see - calling program people as a tool in my recovery. An "instead of" behavior.
Deep down I don't want others to reject me or I fear being vulnerable to program people (which is insane, because they are the people I should feel SAFE being vulnerable with!!!) but, I am seeing that when I am in enough pain I'm willing to do what others did to get better.

Doing something different brings up panic and fear for me. I am trying to reach out more as well. You're not alone.

Aloha N8SMOM....That's kinda usual and goes away with practice which includeds
overcoming the early fear of doing it anyway.  Family is pretty well predictable and
usual where new program friends are not.  One they though is that Noners know
the disease and can speak to it for recovery.   Practice.   ((((hugs)))) smile

I can remember when I had this problem I did not want to bother people.  Then in a face to face meeting the importance of keeping in touch between meetings was discussed and also what people got out of it.  I have no problem picking up the phone now in fact I always ring someone from al ano they are the only ones who know what I am going through.  I always ask have you got ten mins or do you want me to ring back.  All I know is I have come on alot since I got over this I always feel better just like I do when I come on here.  Try your best it really does help

hugs
