The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
My husband is coming home from rehab on Tuesday (1st time) and I have been told to go to al-anon meetings. I cannot find any that are less than 100 miles away. Can I use this site instead? Tricia
Yes Yes Yes!!! Please keep coming back here. You will find support and tons of ESH (experience, strength and hope) from the good folks out here in MIP-land.
There are also meetings here twice a day - the link to the schedule is posted in the upper left corner of this page. These online meetings are my lifeline when I can't get to a f2f meeting.
There are no meetings near me, either, Tricia. However, I have found this board and the chat room to be something of a life-line. The support has been tremendous.
I have only managed one on-line meeting because I am in a different time zone in the UK, but just that once was a very good, very supportive experience.
So - you are in the right place, keep on coming back!
Of course you can. This is a wonderful site ful of caring individuals who have been or are where you are. People who have not dealt with this disease in recovery, do not understand. That is why we need each other here. We know what you are going through because we have been there. Keep coming back here. Read lots and post when you like. You will get lots of help, though we try not to give direct advice. We share our Experience, Strength, and Hope (ESH) to help each other solve our problems.
Also keep looking for the meetings in your area. Sometimes they are hard to find as small groups struggle to keep going and don't have a lot of resourses for outreach. Some places to look, try the WSO website or national hotline 1(888)4AL-ANON. If you can't find one close by then ask for the district contact. Sometimes they know of a new meeting or one that is struggling to keep going, or members that are close to you that you can meet with.
Also try asking at places around town that deal with this kind of stuff, courthouse, counseling center, dr's offices, hospital, etc. The other way is to find a local AA meeting and call that number and ask. The AA folks usually know if there is an al-anon meeting going on.
Welcome to MIP and recovery.

Aloha Tricia and Wow am I always impressed how the membership steps up in support. Grateful to be here with another suggestion also. I have participated in this one myself so I know that it can and does go on in Al-Anon. Get that phone number of the group outside of your area and call and ask them if they would be willing to come out to your area and start a meeting for you and others. You may have to do some homework like calling the hospital and doctors office and the family court and asking them if they could put out the word to qualified other possible members and then ...wallah!! you may end up with your own meeting. Like I said I have been apart of that effort myself and today one meeting a week has turned into almost a daily support. Good Luck and keep coming back. (((((hugs)))))
