Is al-anon for people like me---mom of an addict?  If not, can someone direct me to the proper place?

Yes, Bless your Heart. Somebody with some experience in a situation like yours will be along before too long. In the meantime, you can share some of your story, if you would like. That will bring up memories of what it was like and how they learned to live their best life in spite of it all.
Blessings,
Temple

Al-Anon is for anyone who life has been affected by someone else's addiction, so you are definitely in the right place.

Aloha Sheila - you are definitely welcome here. I wanted to let you know there is also a twelve-step group known as Nar-Anon which focuses more pointedly on families of addicts.

http://www.nar-anon.org/Nar-Anon/Nar-Anon_Home.html

Al-Anon has a specific focus on families of alcoholics. Which, really in my own quiet opinion isn't really all that different than being the family of an addict, but you'll find Al-Anon's discussion primarily focuses on living with the family disease of alcoholism.
