I thought I would post instead of just reading today when I noticed that there was not one new topic since this morning. That started to make me sad like maybe everyone was starting to lose interest in the site. I sure hope not!
My son (the one in 28 day rehab) said to me last night..."Mom, you have to give it away to keep it". He comes home on Tuesday. If he got out on Monday and drank on Tuesday I will still feel like he is now filled with program. That is worth the money it cost for him to do this. He really wants to look for another line of work as the career he has is not a career an A should have. He is a chef and his line of work keeps him stressed out all the time...not to mention that most of the owners of the restaurants he has worked at are A's. He is actually thinking about getting certification for drug and alcohol counceling. His councelor told him that he is very knowledgeable(sp) about addiction (I think he can credit that to me LOL) and that he is very likable. We shall see but he thinks he would be good at it.
I am trying to have hope without any expectations when he gets out of rehab.
Hello Gailey and your right I heard along time ago that a head full of AA and a belly full of booze just don't work . I hope your son chooses to stick with his sobriety . Your going to need patence in the early part of recovery keep expectations low he is in what I lovingly call Stark Raving Sober he may change his mind 50 times in the next few months and thats ok too , support his efforts and if your not already please find yourself some Al-Anon meetings for me it is the best way to support the alcoholics in our life . WE get our life back while they get on with thiers . Never give up hope . Pray and focus on yourself and your recovery . Louise
I haven't posted too much just b/c I haven't had much to say. But I still come here to get my daily reality check. It keeps me focused.
I hope and pray his sobriety will stick. I know first hand how chefs can be. Lots of drugs & alcohol. Scary when you think about it. It would be smart to be removed from that environment. It's his decision to make. All you can do is allow him the dignity of making that choice. Abby's got it right, support him by working your program. I never really understood that until we had a conversation about it. Love and blessings to you and your family.
Live strong, Karilynn & Pipers Kitty
