here I go again--is my mom helpless?

What do I do? Is she helpless?  I am sitting here next to her trying to get into the computer--she is not able to do anything without help!
I am so frustrated!  I guess sometimes some people can't get into their emails without some kind of help.  Maybe she will never be computer--savvy?
I need support!
help me!
Kathleen

Kathleen,

My kids and I live with my mom, who is almost 80; at this point, she has trouble with the TV - forget using the computer! She's not an alcoholic, but technology is definitely not her thing. As many times as I've shown her, written down and laminated the directions, programmed a few buttons for her favorite channels - she just can't seem to wrap her mind around it. Some of it I believe is age-related, sometimes I think she's in the early stages of Alzheimers. But I've given up on getting her to use the computer, and rather than talk her through changing the channels, I just help her find a show she likes.

Hang in there!

Linda

My Dad had a computer hooked up for about a week.
I got only one e-mail, ever, it said    "I hate this damn thing"...ROFL

Our parents didn't grow up with computers.  Heck, I get confused getting my TV back on after my son has been playing video games!
I've had to call him several times and ask... and he got frustrated with me.  Geez Mom!!  I've only told you 10 times!!    I finally got it figured out..lol

Just have to jump in here.  My (ex) mil finally gave up on email because regardless of how much training we gave her, she just couldn't do it.

Then, she had a cell phone.  The first time it "broke", my kids taught her how to turn it on.  Next, she complained because it didn't have a dial tone.  She finally cancelled the service because she "never used it".  uh huh..

Perhaps you could hire a teen to give your mom a few lessons.  Or maybe you can set the program as a bookmark and save the passwords?  Or, try the Serenity Prayer  <3
