Last night my 2 granddaughters, Emily and Grace, watched as their dog ran into the street and got hit by a car. He had to be put down as he had many injuries. He was running to them on the other side of the street.
I am feeling so sad for their little broken hearts. They are coming to my house tomorrow for the weekend and we are planning to do a scrapbook of their dog, Bailey.
Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers and me too so I can give the words of comfort that they need.
Gailey, So sorry to hear about your granddaughters loss. I will pray for them and you. When I was very young, about 5, my little manchester terrier ran out into the street in front of the postman and got run over in front of me. It was very sad. The postman felt very bad about it, in fact some 20 years later when I had been away from my hometown for sometime and had come back, we saw him in the local diner and we stopped and talked to him. He said, "I'm so sorry I ran over your little dog." He was very old at this point and I felt so sorry for him to have carried that for so long. I told him that it was ok, that I had gotten another little "tiny" a sister to that dog after it got ran over, and it was ok. Funny the things we remember.

So sorry. Our pets are not just pets but family. I had the same thing happen when I was young. I was devastated but those life experiences make you stronger.
For me I learned I had to fill the space. I wanted my kids to learn that even with loss of a pet, that we can still adopt another one into our fur family. It does help, and it is a tribute to the one we lost. We loved that one so much we could not do with out a fur face in our lives.
I am glad you validated their pain. They will learn the value of life.
