Angels Come in Many Disguises

As a background to this post, I wrote "Vacation from furious".  Now let me tell you about the good things that were involved!

As soon as I realized my son in law had taken my rented vehicle and left the state with it, (actually drove it almost 900 miles away!) I called the police and told them where to find it.  He had left it at my apartment.  They impounded it.

I called the car rental company.  They were SO nice and sympathetic.  I placed the first call on Wednesday.  The young man at the counter, in Ohio (I was in Kansas) told me to "Stay strong, things will be OK, things will work out.  Just wait and see.  Everything will be OK."  Hmmm, strange to hear that coming from someone I just rented a car from.

This company was SO nice, they found me a similar vehicle to the first one I had rented (I was told this was a small miracle on the 4th of July weekend!).  Not only did they not charge me more for this vehicle, but they also refunded me 2 days rental on the first vehicle!  AND they loaned me a Garmin GPS to use to find my way back home.

I had told them that my boyfriend's GPS had been left in the first vehicle, but they didn't find it.  So, I figured it was lost, either that or my son in law was a bigger rat than I thought he was, and he kept it....

Anyway, they called Monday night, and they had checked the vehicle again and found my boyfriend's GPS!  So, they mailed it to me.

So, in spite of being abandoned (I already have abandonment issues), having my vehicle stolen, and the heartache caused by harsh words between my son in law and I, and my daughter and I, and 2 days spent on the phone with car rental and police in two different states, and several days of vacation ruined that I should have spent enjoying time with my mom.......things worked out OK.

The rental car company did not have to do what they did.  Now THAT is customer service.  I thanked everyone I spoke with, and told them they were indeed angels.  Everyone just said they were doing their job.

I suppose in time, I will heal.  I don't know that my relationship with my son in law will, and right now I don't care.  All I care about is my daughter and granddaughter.  My mom IS a spunky, classy lady, and she stuck right by me thru all this.  She told me she thought I handled it all so well, and did such a good job keeping all the info straight.  I had 3 pages of notes, names, numbers, figures.  That meant a lot to me.

I thought it strange that strangers were kinder to me than my own family.  I never would have thought that my son in law would behave that way.  Never.  I told my daughter I would never have left either one of them, no matter what, unless they were shooting at me or something!  But just cos I was mad???  No way. I think she realizes now how crazy and mean that was.  I mean, he was mad, and I was mad, I just didn't know we were THAT mad!disbelief

Please keep my daughter and grandbaby in your prayers.  They are going to need it.

Love in recovery,
Becky1
