hello, newbie here, grateful alanon

Hello, my name is Stella.

I live with an alcoholic man who is sober, but has anger issues and tends to blame me for his problems.

I am here because I want to work on self-care and focusing on myself and not on him.

I want to explore with othe Alanon's my feelings and my issues surrounding living with an alcoholic.

the lonliness and helplessness adn despair that come along with it.

I look forward to talking with you and meeting you.

I have been to several meetings already (online) and have a sponsor (f2f)

Thank you,

Stella, age 42

Your in the right place and starting off on solid ground. You know that you need to focus on yourself and not the alcoholic, you've got a f2f sponsor and are evidently going to f2f meetings, been to on-line meetings and have come here to post...kudos to you! I wish I had had that much insight when I first started to al-anon. It took me several years to get to where you sound like you are already. Keep coming to these rooms, working the steps, working with your sponsor and you'll find the answers you seek.

Yours in Recovery,

Overcome

Welcome, Stella!

I will speak from working with my own sponsor that the more I talk with her and open up to her about what's going on in my life, the better she's able to guide me. These forums are a decent side-route... they're program, but they don't quite function the same as f2f meetings, and definitely not the same as sitting and having a heart-to-heart with my sponsor.

Do you get to f2f meetings? (I ask because I saw you mentioned online as your meeting attendance). If you haven't been to any f2f meetings, I'd highly encourage it. :) It's great to see people in person, and there's nothing that compares to receiving real hugs!

Take care!

Welcome Stella - I was your age exactly when I got into this program along time ago by the way biggrin  A trick that worked for me in sobriety was when reading literature I substituded my husb name for the word alcoholic ,  alot of people get confused in sobriety  assuming what worked when drinking won't work sober . but it does and remember once an A always an A  I still react to my husb's outbursts occasionally we simply do not think alike and our solutions to problems are not the same at all . As to his still blaming you for  his problems , if u didn't do it dont deal with it , walk away . If u did it admit it apologize and move on , I don't know anyone who has done this perfectly yet were human occasionally we react . my fav page to help me deal with alcoholism is July 14th in our ODAT daily reader , do what it says to the best of your ability and your life will get better that page and the detachment pamphlet changed my life and it will yours too .  I hope to meet u in the meeting sometime soon . Louise

Welcome Stella1!!

This sure is a good place to be.  smileaww
You will find friends here and at f2f meetings that are so unbelievably understanding because they too have found that living with an alcoholic is too much for them. We become irritable furiousand unreasonable without knowing it.furious
That's me! I couldn't understand why I had so much trouble getting along with people. I always had a problem with someone somewhere!
This program keeps me sane. I can believe how I want to believe, no one preaches to you what to do and God really does work through the program.
Blessyou,
Silverbrumby
