I was talking to my older niece the other day about how I suddenly had fleas in the house. How could this be since I give Pipers her fleas meds every month? I asked her if Mommy and Daddy give their dog fleas meds every month. She said no. Well that would explain the fleas in my house since my youngest nieces came over and she could have brought them in with her. That's okay it happens. It's not like she did it on purpose.
As ususal I got on my soapbox about taking care of animals. I made the comment how unfair it is to the dog. It's called being a responsible pet owner. Well my niece made the comment: "They can forget to be a responsible parent at times, so how would you expect them to be a responsible pet owner?" I looked at her and realized how right she is. After all her Mom sent her into a bar at 3am to get her father when she was just 16! Dad I still believes continue to use. But my sister refuses help and I believe never will get it. That's their choice. They aren't bad people just in serious need of getting help and growing up.
All I can do is be there for my nieces. But I wish my niece didn't have to make that point. She shouldn't have to think of her parents as immature and neglectful. They may have material goods, but the emotional side is sorely lacking. It just kind of gets me down. Thanks for letting me vent. Love and blessings to you and your families. WOW!! yea, that kid is one sharp cookie...HOPEFULLY she won't be in al-anon 15 years from now.....I think it is great that you care for the young ones....thank goodness they have you.....
True, she shouldn't have to think of her parents as immature and neglectful. But isn't it a gift that she is seeing them clearly, not hiding in denial..... and isn't it a gift that she has an auntie who can and does model to her a different way of being in the world.
Your niece made a good point! It may of not sounded right coming out of her mouth but it is true that we should listen to our nieces--it does come right out of the mouth of babes sometimes. I personally do not have any children of my own so I get a lot of "stuff" from my nieces & nephews occasionally. Anyway, you have the floor so I will let you alone with your post. I don't always have to make it about me! Kathleen
