Relationships are Hard

I have learned that relationships are hard.  ALL RELATIONSHIPS!  husband and wife, mother and daughter, supervisor to coworker, coworker to coworker, etc.
They are all just hard.  It takes work.  And it begins with me.  I am high maitenance.  I've always joked that I was high maintnance, but I was maintaining the wrong things needing maitenance.  I don't need more shoes or purses or pedicures or flowers and plants.  What I really need it to be kinder to my soul, let go of the baggage i carry around from the past and around my waist, and i need to water my spirit.  Taking care of me, makes my relationships better.
Sincerely,
Tonya

Hi Sincerely Tonya, do you think that for many of us relationships ARE so hard BECAUSE we don't do a good job taking care of ourselves and maintaining ourselves? Do you think that if we put ourselves first and take care of ourselves always, that they might get a little easier? I have found this to be true. hugs, J.

AMEN to this post!!!!! I just want to add that love/friendship , yea, needs watering, and maybe some pruning here and there, but not digging up the whole garden over and over.....If this "love" requires so much work, inspite of my taking care of me/working my program , there is something wrong....

Relationships are work but maybe I used to confuse hard w/ work.  I can see what Jean is saying - now that I focus on & work on me, my relationships are easier.  I'm sure it has plenty to do with the fact that I'm more calm, peaceful & grateful all the way around.  Also, today I have the ability to cope better thanks to recovery/program.

This is fantastic insight & SO true!

Once I began to put me first, I was better/healthier in every way.

Relationships do require work ~ communication being the hugest part for me.  Honesty is everything & love is vital but I have found that willingness is what keeps relationships going.

Thanks for the reminder for me to be kind & gentle to my soul.

I can see that having a good relationship with yourself is the most important one we have.

I don't agree for me.  I think my relationship with myself has got easier over time. When I'm really dysfunctional everything is hard.

Maresie.
