A question about f2f meetings

Do you think it is a good idea to attend f2f meetings with friends you know from outside of al-anon (i was going to say from "real life" but that doesn't make sense...lol). I've found out that someone i know is looking to go to f2f meetings but i am not sure if I feel comfortable with the idea of "arranging" to go together or not.

Tweety, That's how I got started in alanon :) Two friends took me to my first meeting and continued to go with me for several weeks. I am forever grateful to them.

Good luck and I hope you get to f2f soon .

(((tweety))))

I found for me that going with a friend (actually family for me) helped get me back into the program in the beginning and can help in finding an initial comfort level. (however this was not my first contact with AlAnon, I had had two others prior)

But I think after a certain amount of time in that it is probally best to go it alone, if possible, as you'll get more out of the program with unlimited freedom of expression.

Just my thoughts.  Take what you like and leave the rest:)

LOL.  No one in the outside world knows I attend al-anon.  Too be honest, we're so new at this we really don't have many friends that are "supportive" of stopping drinking so, NO, I don't have anyone to go with, but it's ok for me because there is a lot I might say at a F2F that right now, I couldn't tell a friend because they wouldn't understand.

People at al-anon DO understand.  For me it's lonely at the moment.

Yes I do , think of it to have an ali that is also already a friend . anonymity is an important part of our program and will test your relationship I am sure , make sure u both understand no talking to husb about the meetings or who u see there .  U will both make friends in the fellowship and I am sure attend diff meetings , if u feel u won't be able to share with her in the room than u will have to find separate meetings . The first meeting to support each other is great , good luck  Louise
