Truly a miracle....

Guys, guys, guys....thank you so much for your prayers, best wishes, comfort and care, I consider myself well and truly hugged!

My miracle happened this afternoon. My husband called me while I was at work and said he needed to talk to me, my first reaction, oh no what has happened? what have I done? I came home and he tells me that he has decided that all the doctors, his Mom, me, all can't be wrong and maybe he should stop drinking!! He tells me that he has felt his soul telling him that it's wrong, his life is slipping away while he vegetates in front of the TV with his beer. He went on to tell me that he had had a dream 2 nights ago where Death came to visit him and asked him if he wanted to die because his brother had died several years ago.

He's not promising anything...and I don't ask for promises....just a day at a time. I am so grateful for all this and am amazed how our prayers have been answered just as I took that first step and let go. Your page here is well named and I will continue to visit regularly, to read how you all are getting on...to update you and for me to repay all of you with any support that I can provide.

Hello Mariana , now u go to meetings your going to need them. : )  I don't know if u are attending Al-Anon now or not u didn't say in your earlier post.  Sobriety is a big step but is not the answer to all of life's problems tho it sure does bring them down to managable size. I am happy that your husb has come to this conclusion and wish u both well. the hard part now for you is to stay out of his face.  We do tend to think we know what is best for them . hehe

Good luck and yes prayer does work.   Louise

Mariana

I am happy for both of you that your husband has seen what he has to do.

Keep taking care of you and while he is working his program, work your own.

Remember he has to do it himself, with your love and support.

Lots of luck to both of you.

                                         Love Jeannie

hi Mariana, Man I hate to burst your bubble, so I won't.

Mariana, my husband has wanted to quit all the time, he has quit a million times. Relapse us part of this disease. NO one wants to be an A.

I hope and pray he can succeed and get himself into recovery, that means AA. It means having
a program of recovery. Which may include being truthful, accepting responsibility, being moral
and more. Just stopping drinking really does not mean much.

Keep learning alanon skills Mariana. It will help you so much, and your A too. If and when he uses, if you learn and apply alanon skills, it will help you both.

I can tell you love him a lot. He is so fortunate to have you. It is very hard to love and A, very hard. It is even harder to live with one with out alanon.

Please dear, take care of you. Make it so his sobriety has not affect on you one way or the other.
This disease loves to pull our chain and break our hearts.

My husband and I can be like newlyweds for months, then all of a sudden the disease raises its
head and he is gone again. Now I take one day at a time with him. Just appreciate when I do get to see him, sober or not.

Sending you love and prayers. debilyn

I'm happy for you. Miracles come in different ways. Sometimes a big splash -- others,  a series of gentle showers. These are the difficult ones to recognise. Sometimes I wake up holding a different opinion to the one I went to sleep with. Gault

Hi, I hope that this sticks.

My husband was sober for 5 months last year. No program. Then he started drinking again. I was devastated. I made the mistake of stopping alanon meetings too so went he went back I had difficulty coping.

Now he binges for a few weeks, tells me he "saw a sign", needs to lose 30 lbs, is quitting for me, etc on an on and quits.

For a day, or 2, or a week or 2 and the, he starts again.

Please have your eyes open and look out for yourself.

Megan

Mariana, how wonderful.  I have often prayed that my A would have some sort of revelation.  He is dealing w his emphysema now and goes to the bar almost every night to lesson his situation through alcohol and visit w his bar friends who seem to "lift his burden" for awhile.

I assume his next problem will be his liver.  He still "doesn't get it."  I realize I have NO control over it so I am happy just knowing that I have my peace of mind as I try to accept the challenges that come my way.

Best of luck to you and your husband.  My prayers to you.  Annie
