Alcoholic Speaks to His Family

The Alcoholic Speaks to His Family

Don't accept my promises.  I'll do anything to get off the hook.  Nature of my illness prevents me from keeping my promises, even though I  mean them at the time.  Don't believe everything I tell you.  It may be a lie.  Denial of Reality is a symptom of my illness.  Moreover, I am likely to lose respect for those I can fool too easily.  Don't let me take advantage of you or exploit you in any way...Love cannot exist without the dimension of justice.

Thank you so much for that reminder , its so easy to be sucked in and forget how this illness affects the ones we love.

Hi, Wallsal55.  Your post reminded me that I gave my A $20s cash to pay the doctor last week when he went for his checkup.  Needless to say, the bill from the doctor arrived a couple of days ago showing a balance due of $20.  We all know where the $20 went.

I was so angry because I never even gave it a thought that he might keep the cash.  I actually thought he could handle paying the doctor...time after time he has managed to fool me that he could handle things.  I actually have to "chuckle" as to how stupid I have been to even think he is okay.  He certainly knows how to keep me off balance.  I DEFINITELY need to work on me.  Love and prayers to you.  Annie
