AH home yesterday from rehab...seroquel response or booze????

cryHi All...AH came home from 30 day rehab yesterday.  He is saying all the right things and attended AA last night and tonight.  I left him alone for 1.5 hours tonight after he returned from his AA meeting.  When I got back he seemed high.  He took one 100 mg. seroquel (provided by his rehab doc) and claimed it totally wiped him out.  To me it seemed like he may have been drinking.  Is it possible for someone to seems "high" after taking that dosage level?  He isn't totally asleep...he did wake up to talk a few minutes ago.  I don't want to police him, but this makes me very nervous.

Please advise on your experiences with this drug.

God Bless!

H

So what does "policing" him do for you? We cannot change anyone but us, not like it makes any difference. He is an A.

Sometimes the realization hits us that we just love them period. Whether they use or not, they are a person we care about. Accept them as is or let them go.

Everyone wants to be love for who they are. Being a friend first always works for me.

Glad you are here. love,debilyn

I do love him regardless, but when I cannot leave him alone with my 6 year old and 20 month old for even a 2 hour period it makes me a little disturbed.

I just want to know if the effects he experienced are normal for this drug.  If he is going to be taking it every night, I need to ensure my children are safe.

if anyone can provide constructive feedback regarding his response to the seroquel it would be greatly appreciated.

If he's been prescribed to take it every night, then do what you need to do to ensure the children are safe.

He took it when the kids were still awake because he was feeling anxious.  It hit him pretty hard and I wasn't sure if this is a normal response from that dosage level.  I don't think he was capable of handling them under when taking it.  He probably should just take it later I guess.

What I am asking is...was his behavior (bumping into walls, slurry speech, etc) normal for a 100 mg. dose of seroquel?confuse

If he says that it "wiped him out" chances are that is what it did.  You can learn
more about the side effects of the drug on the internet.  There is a explanation
paper(s) that come with the drug which will included "side affect warnings".
The last time I had the drug effect of walking sideways and bumping into walls
my wife told me what she was seeing and then left it up to me to "protect
myself"  She did it by the way without emotion - fear, concern, anger or any of
the other "fuse lighters".   Your husband is newly out of rehab and attending AA.
His best support will come from that program.   Your best support will come from
inside the rooms of Face to Face Al-Anon Meetings. The ESH you get there will
help you identify with this and come thru it.    Protect your children always.  The
eldest one can enter an Al-Anon meeting without you.

I apologise, I did not understand you were asking about if it was the med, and were afraid to leave the kids alone with him.

Sounds like you are a good mom. For me I did not leave my kids with the A period. As nice of a guy as he was, he had a disease and his thought processes were not good.

Family is usually the first who will see the affects of new drug, or even the symptoms of a disease or disorder.

For me I would talk to him about calling the person who prescribed it and tell them about how it affected them.

Type Seroquel in your browser. It is very possible that it was a side effect or a reaction. As with all new meds you should not operate heavy machinery until you know the reaction you have. Same with watching kids.
My ESH would be I do not leave my children home with the A at all. Never knowing what would set off his mood, the temperature outside, the kids, his mother, me, how long it took me to get home, etc... I Just did not do it.
Whether it was alcohol, his being tired, or the meds, he at this point cannot care for the kids in that condition.

Love
Julie

I've been prescribed Seroquel in the past when I was suffering from depression and insomina. And HIGH AS A KITE is the words. My eyes would get blood shot and I would get the munchies and giggles! NO KIDDING!!! And that was with 100mg at night to sleep. They prescribe up to 300mgs to some people. I couldn't imagine!!!! After I gained 20 pound from eating everything in the pantry from the "quills" (that's what they call it...the quills instead of the munchies) I stopped taking them and I take Lunesta. Serequel was a trip...for real!

OH, to answer your question....yes, slurred speach, stumbling into the kitchen, giggling, bumping into the wall, falling onto the bed and waking up not knowing what hit me.  Yep, that all happend to me on serequil.

Sad but true...i was sad anymore because it made me giggle and the insomina went away...LOL....but not a good thing for me.  It made me stoned.

Thanks all for your input!

AH has decided to do without the seroquel. He did not like how he was feeling from the 100 mg dosage. He has a 25 mg. tablet that he could take if he was really having a particularly rough night.
