That was a Shock!!

I had mentioned to my husband the other day that I was thinking about going to the 2009 Arizona Area Al-Anon/Alateen Convention being held June 5 - 7 in Tucson.  I wasn't sure if I could definitely go since I wasn't sure what my husband's schedule would be like (whether or not he'd be back to work by then).  I had asked my cousin if she would like to fly here for a visit with her daughter and go with me (so she could watch both our kids at the hotel while I attend the convention).  She said she would as long as airfare isn't too expensive.

Then yesterday my husband got a phone call about his nephews highschool graduation.  A long time ago he told his brother that he would go with him to it (his brother cannot see his children without supervision).  As it turns out, the graduation will be in Oregon on June 4, so my husband and his brother start talking about making all these plans to go for the weekend.

After a while, my husband realizes that it's the same weekend as the convention and says to me (now this is the shocker) "I realize I've screwed up a lot of important stuff - especially our Hawaii trip - if this convention is important to you, I will tell my brother that he has to find someone else to go with him to his son's graduation."

The convention isn't really all that important to me, I just thought it might be nice to go.  But the one big thing I need to take into consideration before deciding to go is my son.  If my husband is working, he can't watch him.  If my cousin can't fly out here, she can't watch him.  I doubt I could brig my son to the convention by myself because then i wouldn't be able to attend any of the meetings.  So I guess we'll just wait an see how this plays out.

BTW, has anyone here ever been to a convention?  I think it might be very spiritual and helpful to me if I'm able to go.

Sometimes it is a shock and sometimes it is an indication of recovery.  If you turn
your desire over to your Higher Power and act as if you'll make it you might be
shocked again as to how it all comes out.   Keep an open mind.   By the way
speaking of open mines (lol) conventions are like finding gold.  There are sooo
many members there from everywhere and all have special ESH and they all
love you even before you get there.  Gratitude to your alcoholic and cousin who
are willing to support your desire.  Conventions are great!!.

(((((hugs))))) smile
