sponsorship

A new comer is reaching out to me I have given her my number and have given her a lift to meetings ect.  I have answered her texts and tried to encourage her to keep coming back.  Has anyone got any ESH on the first time in their recovery when new people began to turn to them.  I have only been in recovery for 18 months  I must admit it scares me I have always rescued I think HP is giving me a test on what I have learnt.  I will do my best to share what I have learnt my al anon tools.

thanks

Awesome Tracy...One of the first things I was told by my own sponsor when
the time came for another member to reach out to me to pull them up was,
"You can never give what you haven't got".   Stay open, stay willing, stay
honest...in short stay humble.   You are not alone in this program ever.  You
have your HP to use, along with your sponsor,  along with other membership,
along with this board.   You are not alone.  That someone else reaches out to
you for help is not only an opportunity...it is a verification.  Who of us doesn't
need and want a verification that what we do and what we have is attractive.
It is said that we do not promote...we attract.   You might find that you are much
like your sponsee with the major difference being only time...age and recovery
experience.  Your recovery experience is spiritual gold.  Its saved your serenity
and will now help another to save their own.    Yay Tracy...give it all away and
you'll get to keep it all.

(((((Hugs))))) smile

Tracy,

There's a wonderful pamphlet on "sponsorship" that often is stuffed in newcomer packets or you can get online that's helpful. There's also sometimes temporary sponsors for the short-term, more like for a newcomer that has a lot of questions, and co-sponsors as well.

I found when I became a sponsor, I relied on my own sponsor to guide me through when I didn't have the answers, though sometimes we may never have the answers. Also, I learned from my sponsor that I have to be sure that my program continues to be strong (going to my own meetings and time for myself) in order for me to be any use to my sponsees.

I hope this is helpful,
Maria
