Hello Ollie , remember an alcoholic will say anything to get what he wants and needs . ya never know he just might be serious this time , what matters is that u don't get your expectations too high and start attending al anon for yourself so that with or with o ut him sober u will be okay His sobriety or lack of it is his business , I have learned to pay little attention to what people say or promise I watch what they do . good luck Louise
Hi Ollie, My AH went through detox and a 28 day program. He has been going to AA meetings quite often and has been sober for a few months. It seems like it is going well... However, I have found Al Anon and am working my own program. So, if he slips or if he doesn't I can take care of me. Keep reading the CAL and going to f2f meetings if you can, the support there is amazing. You truly find out that you are not alone!
There is a difference between going to rehab and detox. Rehab for the A is usually best because it gives them more long term sobriety. Having said that, my A went to rehab and then detox. Hopefully the seed will be planted in detox. You have to leave his recovery up to him.
The best thing you can do for his recovery is to concentrate on your own. I learned that lesson a bit late. But once I did, I felt much better and things were easier to handle. The dynamics of a sober relationship vs. an active are different. I found I needed my program more when hubby got sober. I wish you both well in your recoveries. Much love and blessings to you and your family.
Live strong, Karilynn & Pipers Kitty
