The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
Thought it might be neat if we all posted our favorite quote(s) or slogan(s)......something we use to keep us on track. I'm a VERY forgetful person, and can't remember what I usually ate last, but some of the slogans and quotes here are great, and they stick in my head and come back when I need them. This really is such a wonderful program......I feel like a new person more and more with every passing day...... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One of my favorites is from C2C-
"Worry never robs tomorrow of it's sorrow, it just saps today of it's strength"
Thanks for sharing....... Shelly

My favorite slogan is Let Go and Let God...Experience has taught me that His plan is a lot better than mine! Janin906 (new to this online "thing" but not new to the program!
I have several favorites but the one that always always works for me is This Too Shall Pass - good or bad I will never be going thru the same thing at the same time with the same people again , it will pass . One of our old timmers always says No where in our literature does it say It came to stay . Louise
Shelly, My favorite is "How important is it". It works in all situations for me alcohol related or not.
Another one that is not a slogan, but I picked it up at an early Al-Anon meeting that has helped me countless times, I call my "Four Magic Words". When dealing with an alocholic a discussion can easily get out of hand and lead to an argument. Most of you will agree with me that A's love to argue. (Lets just call that an understatment.) Well, when I see a discussion with my AW is leading to an argument I will just say my "Four Magic Words", You Might Be Right. That way the discussion stops in it's tracks. Sanity prevails.
My four magic words actually goes back to my favorite slogan. "How Important Is It" to win the argument and lose your serenity. You decide for yourself.
For me it is "stop expecting and start accepting". I hated it at first and thought why shouldn't I expect people to do this or that, but then realized, who the heck am I to expect someone to be something they're not. I realized that was just my need to try and control and this saying sets me free.
I love all of these! I just love slogans. They really work, all of 'em!
I used to think that slogans were so dumb.
I used to think they were a form of brain washing and then I came to understand that my brain really needed a washing because of all the years of stinking thinking.
I like to replace the word "drink" with "think". A's have a serious drinking problem while I have a serious thinking problem, etc.
Great string of posts here- each one is a jewel! Jean
I like, baby steps count. I would get SO frustrated early on when my sponsor would say, see how much more quickly you're recognizing it? I didn't think that "counted". But it does - it's a phase I have to go through to get to the place where I say the healthier words first.
And I just love the grandaddy of them all: "Keep coming back!"
I LOVE THE SLOGANS. These are the things that pull me through crisis along with STRONG affirmations. Here are a few of my favorites:
* PAIN IS INEVITABLE, SUFFERING IS OPTIONAL * THERE ARE NO VICTIMS, JUST VOLUNTEERS * LET IT BEGIN WITH ME * LIVE AND LET LIVE * LET GO AND LET GOD * PAUSE * THINK
AND FOR ME, THE GRANDDADDY OF THEM ALL: THIS TOO SHALL PASS!
One of my favorite excerpts from COURAGE TO CHANGE is at the bottom of page 267:
"If I am ALWAYS reacting, I am NEVER free" YIKES! That was such a pain in the butt to hear.
