Hair Loss, Stress & Alcohol

Ok full of questions today...has this ever happened to other alcoholics/overstressed people? My alcoholic son, 20, has always had an incredibly thick head of hair.

I kid you not, about 90% has fallen out! It first started falling out the first week of Nov and by Thanksgiving it was gone. To quote a Leave it to Beaver episode...he looks like Wilson's Airdale when it had the mange!

He got to a dermatologist before the insurance ran out. The doctor said it was stress and it could take months to grow back.

Sometimes I wonder if this is his HP trying to get his attention.  Thanks for listening.  I appreciate all the support on this board!  F2F tommorrow!

 Hi Luv

My sister lost her hair like this, it's called Alopecia and is a reaction to stress. Her hair grew back but some of it was sort of thin and a little area had lost its colour. It does take a while to grow back but will be ok.

Is it your first f2f tomorrow? these meetings are so great, with so much love and support there for you. Good luck I'll be thinking of you.

With love hugs and Gratitude Carol

My younger sister had that issue.  When you poison yourself and are in a lot of stress that happens.  The issue that proves an alcoholic is that they keep on going even when there are consequences.

Stress affected ME this way.

I did have beautiful thick hair - over the years of living with active alcoholism/addiction my hair became thin & lifeless - regardless of taking vitamins and using lots of healthy hair products.

I have been living in my new home for almost 2 months now - you can already see the difference in my hair - it is growing like crazy - the body and bounce has not only returned to my smile but also to my walk and to my hair.

I pray that your son finds a path to recovery soon - but also that you find a way to help yourself too.

HUGS,
Rita
