I guess all information is worthy of something, but for the life of me, I cannot fathom what the point of that article was (or for that matter, why it was reposted on here). Millions of people recover from alcoholism and addiction, many by the tried and true ways of AA, NA, Treatment Centers, etc... I read that article and they seem to want us to have no hope. My ex-wife just celebrated her 6-year cake, and got sober through the professionals and skills of a 53-day treatment center entitled Edgewood, in Nanaimo BC.
I say "bah humbug" to the writer of that article. I think it is pure hogwash.
The most difficult aspect of this disease is that yes, there is an "element" of choice involved in getting better, but it is only one of the many pieces of the puzzle.
That writer can believe what he/she wants to, but publishing articles like that give the dangerous impression of some type of expertise on behalf of the writer.....
Disgruntled in Canada....

Yup. One of the reasons statistics aren't much good is because alcoholics and addicts are liars. Lie to their families, therapists, themselves... and statisticians.
The article seems to be basically about money, how it is spent, how it should be spent, etc. I have my opinion on the outside issue of these programs, but it doesn't belong here (tradition 10) - and neither does money (tradition 6).
