Grateful

Hi All,
I was/am in the depths of despair over recent events with my partner who is a recovering addict. In despair and through tears I came across Al-Anon. What a life saver I cant tell you how much of a miracle it is for me to find myself here and have all you wonderful people accept me. How have I got through life not knowing that I'm a text book codependant! all the info I've read on ACOA and CODA describe me down to my last eyelash! What a revelation. My Dad is an alcoholic, my childhood horrible. I thought I'd got away from all that, I believed that if I chose not to think about it, it didnt count or continue to affect me. Oh how wrong I have been. Everthing is becoming clear to me now. My bad relationships, my attempts to control everything, my increasing exhaustion with it all  Well not any more, I'm going to work this program and sort my life out
. Am overwrought at the moment and have big worries over some stuff but will keep coming back.

THank you with love x

Aloha Mariner!!

Great to have you here to share in the miracles some of us have had the grace
to be grateful for.  You can have them to if you continue to be willing and open
minded and commited to your own change and recovery.

We have slogans that are life savers.  Have a few.  Easy does it...One day at a
time...Let go and Let God...When in doubt? Don't...This too will pass...Keep it
(all of it) simple...Don't react!!...Think.  There are more and you get get them
the literature, meetings and of course the membership.

Keep coming back.  You've got that breath of fresh air.  (((((hugs))))) smile

((((((((Mariner)))))))))),

Keep it simple and easy does it are great beginner's slogans.  They sure helped me when I was learning everything new.

Glad you cared enough about yourself to keep coming,
Maria

I too am a textbook codependent. Welcome to al-anon. We're glad you are here. As you go to meetings and post here and read posts, you'll find that many of our stories are the same, although some of the details may be different. Although you may not agree with all of us you will come to love us in a very special way, the way we already love you.

Take care and Easy Does It (one of my favorite slogans). Also the 3 C's, you didn't cause it, you can't control it, and you can't cure it. Remember this program is for us and not the alcoholic. It is to help us get through each day, One Day at a Time and Just for today I can do in 24 hours what it would scare me to death if I had to keep it up for a life-time.

How good to have you here.  Remember also Maria Rua's mandate no FDC's.  Don't Fix, Direct or Control.  I'm glad you are finding literature helpful. I re-read things a lot.  I also try to be very active about taking care of myself in a healthy way rather than a unhealthy way.
Maresie.
