Loving Alanon

I just wanted to share how much I'm loving Alanon. I have been going for about 3 years and just recently started really getting involved and working a "good" program and it feels so good. I'm only on the first step but this time I get it. I'm understanding how it works. I don't get 2-12 yet but I'm understanding step one and I'm feeling that being powerless is a great place to be. It is so freeing each time I take that step and admit I am powerless over ____ (whatever it may be that moment) and really feel what I'm saying. My experience with this 1st step has been, the reason I never "got" it before and didn't know how to take the 1st step is because I wasn't willing to feel humility. I still needed to "look good" and prove to you that I had it all together. I said I didn't but subconsciously and in my actions, I needed to "have it all together". If I was really down or feeling like horrible about myself, I wouldn't go to a meeting or call anyone. I would check out. Once I was back up on life and feeling good and focussed on the alcoholic in my life, I would get back into meetings. I kept the focus on the A and never really on me. I know I wont always have the first step down like I do today but I know I've experienced it for the first time, I know what it feels like and I know what to strive for.

Thanks for all your posts, they have helped me get here.

Aloha Nicole!!

Its great that you got step one both parts down good.  That is for me the real
foundation of membership.   Keep on keeping on because if you are loving
what is happening with step one you've got more real miracles coming with 2
thru 12 and the life it builds for those that practice, practice, practice.

(((((hugs))))) smile

It gives me hope. We can work the steps as many times as we need too. And we end up the winners in the end. It works if you work it.

In support,
Nancy

I think its so interesting how and when al-anon really comes thru strong for us at certain times...and other times it does not or perhaps in a different route- I think its so beautiful how we get to work this program at the pace and in the way that suits us best.

Right now I am living in a remote area and there are a couple of meetings I go to occasionally but they are not really "doing it" for me so I am reading alot more, calling people and coming here. It works when you work it and there are so many ways and times and strategies to work it- Hugs, J.

I love this program too , welcome to what my friends call now Walking the walk - instead or talking the talk .  I remember the day many yrs ago when I started to truly walk the walk as clearly as if it was yesterday .and my life has never been the same since . Our steps are numbered  1thru 12 for a reason  , one easily slides into 2 and on and on .Bloom where your planted move forward at your own pace , you have no idea where these steps will take you , so buckle up your in for one hell of a ride .   Louise

A friend of mine who loved al anon introduced me to the program years ago. I went to some meetings absolutely hated it. I hated the people, I hated the tools, I did not want any part of it.
I tried a couple of meetings I gave it a shot but I heard and felt nothing that called to me.
Years and years later I crawled in here, and now  I am here daily and I really feel I have come home.

I'm glad you are here too.
Maresie.
