I remember we had this post not too long ago and it was a riot. I thought maybe we all had some of those "I'm an alanon!" moments...
You know you're an "alanon" when you are sitting in an alanon meeting and you hear a scratching from the waste basket but insted of getting up to go check, you wait to be validated from someone else in the group that there is REALLY a scratching noise comming from the waste basket. And we all sit there and wait for someone else to say "what's that's noise?" so incase the noise is really in our heads.... LOL! Yeah, it was a bat in the waste basket.
LOL......Oh the DENIAL that accompanies hearing something scratching in a trash can. And add AL-ANONER'S to the mix - and you can bet that the denial level was way up there!! lol Thanks, Seren......I REALLY needed that laugh.
Even after 29 years in recovery I sooooo relate to that humor. LOLOL I have to keep working at something and being responsible for myself and the outcomes in my life is it.
If ya ever got a call from you spouse's cell phone, which is in her pocket and has hit a speed dial button somehow, and you answer and can here the sounds of tinkling glasses, loud music and people being rowdy. And you spend the next 15 minutes alternating between eavesdropping and screaming at the top of your lungs to get her attention so she will hang up the phone, INSTEAD of just ending the call from YOUR end!!!!!
Ya may be an alanonic!!!!
Yep I did that..hehehe...in fact, got so worked up about it my own brain gave me a nose bleed!!!
Haven't done the cell phone thing exactly but spent years just knowing if I "screamed" loud enough about certain things (that seem very reasonable normal expectations to me for a relationship) screamed, begged, cried, obsessed- and got the same response you got from the pocket-nothing, as if he can't even hear me. Was such a relief to discover that his lack of listening skills/ ability to "hear" me was not going to be changed by my screaming louder. Only gonna give myself a "nosebleed". That story seemed just like me. Thanks D
