I have a friend who does 'possom rescue. They are such a cute animal but people act like they are awful in the USA. I have raised two and they are so cumb and gentle.
I am going to change it soon to another cute pic of them. hugs, debilyn
Too cute! I live in a small agricultural town, and have had to relocate 3 armadillos, and had two possums in the backyard the past year (with 6' fencing all the way around). Oh, and we had a wayward pigeon who overnighted in the garage on a large dowel we tacked up for him, and he flew the coop the next day. LOL!
Youngest daughter also had a baby snapping turtle she cared for over one summer and then re-released him into the river. She named him Spike and had quite a setup for him.
We're the Kansas version of the Doolittles here (6 dogs, 8 cats, and two rats as permanent residents).

Never seen one here in England, Opossum/possum that is, nor the Armadillos though my Aunt had one in her garden in Texas. And as for the Turtle, how sweet.
I just LOVE all you animal rescuers!
I do my best for the wild birds in my garden and keep hoping to get more and encourage the doves. I have a pair of lovely wood pigeons that coo in my hug pine tree.

When i moved out 18 mos ago, one of the first nights in the new house I had left the garbage can outside so I could wash it out before putting it in the new house and I guess I had left the styrofoam from a meat package in the bottom of it. I came out in the morning and when I looked in there was dirt all around the inside except for the top 3 or 4 inches and a little possum guy curled up in the bottom. He scared the crap out of me! And me him too I guess! So I looked in there and started talking to him and he had been trying to jump out of that thing the whole night and had made himself a little nest ripping up that styrofoam! So I was scared to death of him, he had sharp teeth and claws so I got a broom and knocked the can over and fully expected him to run out. So when he didn't I went around and looked in and there he was lying on his back with his tongue hanging out like a movie star death LOL. He was so cute. I told him I know you're not dead...go on...and then I went to work. He was gone when I came back but he was such a cutie I wished I could keep him as a pet.
I hugged a tree once. They almost arrested me. It was six feet around and I swear I could feel the samp pumping in response to my touch. Maybe a straight jacket would have been more appropriate. :) As for the opossums. I want to be the one one the left
Well, Tugg, I don't think I would care to be an opossum; even the one on the left, but maybe I'll go outside and hug my HUGE pecan tree. And whisper softly to it...*please don't produce so many nuts this year." A 70 foot pecan tree in a fairly small space can inundate the place a foot deep in nuts. Even the squirrels gave up.
Want some pecans?

As you know I too am an animal lover. Though not quite to the extent you are. 5 dogs 1 cat a rabbit some fish and a baby sparrow I rescued (now 5 years old)
Most of mine are domestic (except my baby sparrow) we do have some possums, a raccoon or two and many squirrels and rabbits that roam around outside. You are doing a great service, and I love your Avatar.
