THINK

Well, I was going back over the last week in "Hope for Today" and February 5's reading made me Think about thinking, and assess my ability to think positively.

It says: ...this slogan is intended to help me Think before I act, making sure my actions are well thought out, not impulsive, compulsive, or reactive.

It reminds me that:... the slogan is not Think, think, think, think.

It goes on to say: ...I sometimes need to expand the scope of this slogan: Think (in moderation), Think (and pray), Think (out loud with a sponsor) or Think (and feel).

Gosh, how true, and what a mess I have created for myself at times, when I have not practiced Thinking in these ways. Many are the times that I have been brought to my knees by irrational, intense, negative, thinking, so I read with delight that someone had set down the errors of my ways and was offering me direction to make sense of the crazy mixed up mess I get myself into at times by thinking in this crazy muddled reactive way.

I THINK THAT THIS IS A WONDERFUL STEPPING STONE FOR ME IF I APPLY the thinking process in a POSITIVE AND CAREFUL way.

Have any of you found that your thinking becomes excessive, out of hand, irrational and a stumbling block rather than a healthy, helpful and positive experience? Surely I am not alone in this experience? Am I a class of one on correct THINKING PROCESSES? I do hope not. I think it's over to you.

(((((((((((Heart)))))))))))))))),

I learned that the A's have a drinking disease and we <sigh> have the thinkin' disease.

Thank goodness for this program, I no longer overanalyze things that used to "rent" space in my head for hours, days and sometimes weeks.

love Maria

Oh yeah, me too HB,

Distorted thinking, circular thinking that bogs ya down instead of clears things up to move forward and incorrect perceptions included.  Keeping it simple is my refuge and staying in the moment without the what ifs.  Easy to write down but can be exhausting trying to apply.  Think, breathe and pray is my first action when and if I am aware I chose the wrong path of thinking.  Practice and progress is all we can focus on I guess.

hang in there!  hugs, ddub

Its called Stinking Thinking. Another angle is to replace the word "think" with "drink" in AA and al-anon literature. Drink is used to describe them. Think can be used to describe us al-anoners. So, they may have a serious drinking problem but we are the ones with the serious thinking problem: BINGO! the family disease in a nutshell.

I struggle with this daily. I really struggle with it hourly around my period!! I have gotten pretty good at making it stop, though, thanks to this program. When I am aware of it, I am able to stop it. It seems the sooner I can get it and stop it, the better. J.

I cringe sometimes thinking (there I go again) about what others would say if they heard my thoughts sometimes....
