Just wanted to say thanks again to those of you who responded to my call for "ya may be an alanonic" anectdotes about a month ago.
This last Saturday evening I attended the AA christmas party and told my story to about 70-80 members of the fellowship.
I used several of your "submittals" and it was a big hit. I love that we can laugh at things that wernt a damn bit funny at the time!
It was a good experience for me again. This was the second time I have done this and I was a lot more nervous, because I knew very many of those that were there from conferences in the area. But once I got going, I settled down and let my HP take over what the message would be.
It was kinda cool too. I had decided just before I got up to talk that I wanted to focus more on my life since finding al-anon and the tools of my recovery. But when I got up to the podium, I said a quick prayer, asked my HP to guide my words and let go. Then I spent an hour talking about the "what it was like" phase of my life before recovery.
This group was almost entirely AA. There were about 7 or 8 Al-anon members there. After it was over, I lost count of how many of those "A's" came up to me and thanked me for showing them exactly how their disease had affected the non alcoholics in their life.
So I went from being a little disappointed in myself for not focusing more on my recovery, to being humble once again and sharing a smile with my HP, who knew better than me what this group of people needed to hear.
Anyway, I will make the plug again! If any of you get asked to speak at a recovery function! Do it!!! It is a very rewarding experience. Scary when you are getting ready...but such a rewarding experience.
Thanks again for all your support my beautiful friends. Without all your love and help I couldn't do this stuff!
