Sponsorship

I am looking for an online sponsor.  If you have any suggests for me to find someone to help me with this, please let me know.  I thought that maybe I should give you some background information on me.  I have been with this program for almost 4 months now and I am totally dedicated in recovery.  My AH is actively drinking and I am actively getting better.  Some of you know me and some of you probably don't.  I had a nervous breakdown in September and I am climbing out of the hole slowly but steadily, one day at a time.  I don't ever want to go back to where I was 3 months ago so my recovery is very important to me.  If anyone has any suggestions for me I would greatly appreciate it.

Probably best way would be to find someone, either through the boards or through chat, who seems to have what you want. And then, ask that person.

I'd also like to add - if you ask someone who says no, that is not a rejection of you.  Not everyone is ready to sponsor, not everyone has the time, some people already are sponsoring as many people as they feel  able to already.

Tammy I am so sorry to hear you had a breakdown.  I think I had many moments of tremendous despair living with the A.
There were lots of cracking points for me. In time I came to see those cracking points as my inablity to set boundaries. I also came to see I was completely powerless over his incredibly self destructive behavior. I think this program is a wonderful resource.
Maresie.

Aloha Tammy!!

Keep up the willingness and honesty and don't stop reaching out.  You might get some no's before you'll get a yes.  That's how it works.  I hope you get a sponsor that has what you are looking for.  Don't be afraid to ask them if they do.

Gooo girl!!

((((hugs)))) wink

Welcome to MIP. We have all been through similar circumstances here. You will certainly find some friends among us. As the others have said, don't feel rejected if someone says no when you ask for a sponsor. Eventually you will find someone.

This is a good place to vent, to share, and to encourage. Keep coming back as we will always be here for you. Some of are living with active A's like myself, and some are not. We are a family dedicated to recovery.

Love and Blessings,

I just completed an al-anon workshop on sponsorship: Interview your potential sponsor and make a list of the qualities you are looking for! Also, be sure to ask them if they have a sponsor and if their sponsor has a sponsor. Ask them if they have worked all the steps with their sponsor. Pick someone you want to become like. Find out how long they have been in the program. Ok, just some ideas. Good luck- J.

(((( Tammy )))) had a great time chatting with you last night!  Although I do have to admit I'm tired tonight - came in to work and hour and half late!  LOL!!  Anyway, I hope I helped a little.  I'm here for you.  I've never thought about being a sponsor, but maybe since i've been in the program for over 10 years off & on, maybe I can help??  Lord knows i've been there ....

Hopefully i'll see you tonight again.  Try to have a good, calmer day today.

(((AJ)))  Thank you so much for talking with me last night..You helped me more than you could ever imagine.  I'm sorry that you were late to work though...lol. I honestly couldn't think of a better sponsor than you.  You're life experiences are so much in common with what I am going through.  You are a wonderful and caring person.  I will forever use I think the lights are going out as a tool.  I hope to see you again tonight.  Have a great day at work.  Love you sister.

It does help put thing things into perspective.  I've done pretty well today.  I went shopping with my mom.  I've had some anxiety, but it's been tolerable.  I did get mad and tell myself off in the mirror today..lol..I'll tell you about it later!  I don't want everyone that reads this to think I'm nutz.   I'm so glad that I found you.  I've thought about all that you said tome last night all day today.  Thank you for being so wonderful. worship.gif
