My second F2F meeting I bought the ODAT daily reader. My morning routine was to drive into work and before entering into the chaos which is my job... read the daily passage and meditate a bit on what it means to me and my situations.
Well, during a .... invigorating disscussion (LOL)... she apearantly decided to take the book out of my car. I don't know what she did with it. At the time I hoped that she took it home to read it. Ha Ha Likely she threw it out of the window of her car on the way back to her apartment.
What a blessing that was for me. First of all, in my F2F last week, that fell into place with my share on anger, (or the lack thereof). I was not upset at all, as it seemed so logical that she would hate that book. Finding that book in my car last year was her introduction to this bunch of devil worshiping home wreckers...AKA alanon. LOL
Today I bought Hope for Today and the Alcoholic Marriage. What great books. Never read them before, and probably wouldn't have bought new ones if my old stand by hadn't become "unavailable".
Today, I know that my AW has not decided to do anything about her drinking problem, but she helped me get up off my butt and branch out.... so I am greatful.
Hope we all can find the "gifts" HP hides all over... as David wrote about. Found one of mine today.
Take care of you!

Great share and I can sooooooooooo see your sense of humor there. It's refreshing, another gift.
Some of my family calls this "the cult" I have to remind them that cults let you in and never you let you out. So many have come and gone, anope, this is no cult here
Thanks for sharing, Maria

I can always count on you to give me a good giggle. But who knows perhaps she kept it and is reading it. Hmm..... that's be an interesting thought. I just bought a new meditation book and I love it. It's very upbeat and positive. The Promise of a New Day by Karen Casey & Martha Vanceburg Hubby and I each read our meditations to each other. There are times when I don't have a clue what his AA book is talking about, and then once in a while something just clicks. I like your idea of reading it just before work. I might have to do that.
Love and blessings to you and your family.

Too funny! They don't like seeing that book do they??? LOL I like the suggestion that someone walking on the side of the road needed it more LOL that's exactly what I would think.
Years ago my brother admitted himself to an in-house treatment for alcohol and drug abuse. Once a week an Al-anon group came to share a meeting with them. They called the al-anoners "the enemy" He didn't tell me about this until years later when I became connected with Al-anon. He and I are not enemies :), we're very close.
At first I used to hide my al-anon materials and web activity, I didn't want to create yet another conflict. Then as I got stronger, I left materials around on purpose. They got noticed, and read. The site got visited, the posts closely examined. The stories about hurting people with deep family challenges, thoughtfully absorbed. One evening, while sitting alone at home reading posts in Al-anon, my wife hit the link to AA, found a local meeting, went straight to it, and to my knowledge has not had a drink since then. That was a year ago this month. She's well on her way. One thing I believe, alcoholics who may be in a state of denial to others, are not in denial to themselves. They know. May they continue to come across the materials within which offer help and hope for their families, and ultimately for themselves. May the rift between those affected by alcohol and those affected by alcoholics become smaller and softer. as we all heal. May we all eventually remember that we "are very close" in spirit.
hahahaha maybe thats how some of the ODATS i've found in thrift stores got there... giggle giggle. Dilemma of the Alcoholic Marriage is a great book!! So glad she tossed your ODAT! hahaha
Luv, Kis (still giggling)
