To Everyone in the meeting shown in the title of this post ...
Thank you for being present so that I could have a meeting right before going to see what the CAT scan of my brain would show. Thank you for your prayers and support in the meeting.
I took with me to my appointment something to remind me that all of you were standing with me.
The report is basically excellent! YAY!
Something bad did happen in my brain at some point. The neurologist invited me to look at her computer screen to see exactly what my brain looked like in the CAT scan. Cool; I told her I have a lot of curiosity, especially about anything to do with *me*! lol She explained to me what was there that showed something bad had happened relates to experiences we are familiar with from working our Al-Anon program: 1. The bad thing that happened in the past can't be undone or erased, whether it happened a few days ago or happened years ago. That little (compared to my whole brain) scar is going to remain. 2. There is recovery and healing even without undoing or erasing the past. From her other ways of testing how my brain and nervous system are functioning in the *present* and from the fact that I've been symptom-free ever since the day after going to the ER, she believes I am as okay as anyone else walking around. There may not be a cure, but I am healed and whole. 3. "Keep coming back!" and "It works if you work it!" I have to return for her to keep watch over me during the next 3-6 months. I have to pay attention to watch for any return of the symptoms and call her right away no matter how tiny the symptom. Doesn't that sound like our Al-Anon way? (grin) We learn not to minimize our own symptoms; we learn not to be embarrassed or ashamed to "bother" the doctor or our sponsor or the other people in a meeting (or whoever). And I have to make some changes in my lifestyle for the 3-6 months. (pout) (complaining that life's not fair and asking why me and why now) But don't worry: I get over my pout just by recalling that I have only 3-6 months of changes, while it could have been changes for the rest of my life.
Thank you again to all who were at that meeting.
My hope is that I've expressed that I am relieved to learn my brain is still functioning completely fine despite what happened in the past and that I'm in need of working my program all the time because as soon as I had about 25 minutes of relief, I started pouting to myself over having to change my life for 3-6 months. lol at myself and so glad to know I am not alone in being a miracle *in progress*
Love to my chosen family, all members of Al-Anon everywhere, Sunny
You are a scream in the chatroom, I was in one night and someone pm'd me and said, OMG ally, sunny is worse than you.... THAT, is a big compliment to you...lol
Your getting really popular with us all, and you make us laugh...And thats the start of recovery...
Remember we can all be serious for you too....And we are ALL here for you 24/7..
Wonderful news, Sunny.......a true answer to prayer. I am going to go pray now and thank God for his wonderful grace and wisdom. I can be so guilty of asking for things, but not always remembering to thank God and praise him. I am truly grateful to have had the privilege of praying for you and now can praise God in thankfulness. Thanks for letting us know, Sunny! Keep taking care of YOU!
Lexie, what you said about asking versus thanking/praising often happens to me. Thank you for bringing it to my mind again that I hope to give thanks and praise for this as many times as I asked to let this cup pass from me ... your post helps me because I need frequent reminders to do almost everything that pertains to myself instead of to someone else! When I've prayed for others, much easier to remember to give thanks/praise many times afterward ... for myself ... easy to forget.
(((((Sunny)))))) so happy to hear you are ok. WOW~ that is sooo great and very interesting that you were able to see what the doc sees and understand even more clearly (visualy) how truly healthy you are Today. ((())))
looking forward to seeing you in chat again soon. blessingsblessingblessings to YOU your friend in recovery aunitedway
