Last week I was full of sorrow about my AH and I splitting up and possibly heading to the divorce courts. This past weekend I spent the entire weekend with him and he has told me that after his two binges ober tyhe past two or three weeks he has realized that he is not happy and he wants a better life. /he said that me not talking to him for 2-3 days really made him think on what he is really missing out on.
My AH has also informed me that not only is he going to quit drinking but quit the pot as well. I have been praying for this for many years. Prayers do work!! Anyway, he has been clean from alcohol and pot for almost two weeks now. On Friday when he came to the house to pick me up to go to an open AA meeting his friend who sells him the pot called him and said that the supply was in and he can pick it up any time he wants. To my surprise he said "NO Thanks, I QUIT Drugs and Booze" Wow!!!! am I excited! He has been going to 2 -3 meetings a week for the past week or so. Got himself a sponsor and is really trying to clean up. The eekend was wonderful. He has admitted things that I thought he would never admit to. He says he looking forward to a new life of being sober instead of the unhappiness he has had for the past 50 years.
As for me, I'm supporting him but I am taking One Day at a Time, and I am still praying for him as well as me.
Sounds great AR..... Sounds like he's off to a great start on his recovery...
And not to try to burst your bubble.... but YOU following YOUR program is extremely important during this time period as well... I can almost "hear" expectations/hopes/dreams building by the minute, and it is important to remember that he has a LONG way to go, as do you and/or the two of you...
The old saying still applies: "he will either drink or he won't.... what are YOU gonna do?"
Take care Tom

You are right Tom!!! I will be working my program for me.... as I have been since I joined Al anon 7 months ago. I am keeping an open mind to this and I know I have to look after me while he looks after him. I have no expectations. I'm just doing One day at a Time. My sponsor tells me the same thing as well as Easy Does It. Thanks for the support!
Ok albertarose so far so good , but like everyone has said , stay with your program , your going to need it - we still need to stay out of thier program and let them do it there way . While u do it your way . With both of you working a program u got a chance . Keep expectations low and regardless of what he does you will be okay. enjoy sobriety and each other but take care of you . Pink clouds have a way of exploding when u expect it the least , he is for the first time living l ife sober sounds like he is really making an effort meetings a sponsor etc . give him a hug for me . We have an awsome book called Living with sobriety I foundit really helpful in early yrs of sobriety , and our book Dilema of the Alcoholic marriage has wonderful stuff on communication . Talk to your sponsor reason things out with others and go h ome with a solution . goodluck enjoy !!!!!! Louise
