Here is a poem I just responded to a post with , and as I typed it, I felt I wanted to send it everyone. Not sure if it will align properly as I type it, but here goes. Wild Geese by Mary Oliver You do not have to be good...You do not have to walk on your knees for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting....You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves....Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine. ...Meanwhile the world goes on. ...Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain are moving accross the landscapes, over the prairies and the deep trees, the mountains and the rivers.... Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air, are heading home again.... Whoever you are, no matter how lonely, the world offers itself to your imagination, calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting, over and over announcing your place in the family of things. On a more personal note, things are hard for me right now. Trying to define our new relationship in recovery, me and my bf. Just as much angst, sadness, doubt as the drinking days...leaves me wondering if it is just me...maybe I am just emotionally unbalanced...though I know that is not really the case. Staying focused on me is sooo hard. How do you even find the time - small kids take endless time and energy, work,friends,cooking,cleaning,exercise....I guess I have to find the ME in all those times, but I find myself just wanting to be alone for the rejeuvenation I need...impossible in my real life :) Trying to take it easy and my bf and I have a code word to stop conversations when they start to get too out of control....we say"lets be carefull"..it helps...we want to be carefull of ourselves and each other....thanks for all being there...I know I can't do this alone. Love, fifi
i'm so happy with the progress you are making. i've almost been able to feel how you've come, come to, come to be such a blessing. for yourself, and for us here on the board..
with love cj

About finding time for yourself..You just have to "take it". Sometimes it can only be for 2 minutes here and there. I used to just stop myself and breathe and recognize that "these are the minutes I'm taking". We tend to think there isn't time. But if we grab minutes from here and there we can find them and utilize them. The trick is to recognize them. I especially could find them in tasks that no one else wanted to do. Like dishes, raking leaves, getting groceries..everyone sure left me alone then!!
take care Christy

Great poem. As for finding time for you, you'd be surprised how easy it becomes to grab those minutes like Christy says. If things are tense at the house, I will hide in the bathroom and take a few minutes to refocus. Or I will go outside and breathe some fresh air. I give myself the extra joy of taking a long hot shower. Steal a few minutes to look out the window and see the and revel in the . You're doing better than you realize. Don't be so hard on yourself. Recovery can be overwhelming, that's why it takes time.
Love and blessings to you and your family.
Live strong,
