Well - after completely losing it with my AH the other day, I have renewed hope that he is making progress. Keep in mind that my screenname is babysteps for a reason!
A quick recap of my story: AH went to rehab for a month in July 2005, relapsed 5 days after getting home. Has spent the past 1.5 yrs making halfhearted efforts to go to mtgs, get sober, etc. with no success. Debt, not enough income, no responsibility on his part, blah, blah... All came to a head on Wednesday morning over some medical bills for which he should have been responsible.
Anyhoo, AH has been attending AA 2x per week for about a month, but was still drinking. At Thursday's meeting (the day after I blew up), he came home and told me that he had asked a senior member (who I know) to be his sponsor. This is a huge step for him amd I am very proud. He said he will be going to the 4 local meetings each week and talking on the phone with his sponsor each day that he can't attend a meeting.
I hate to get my hopes up, but his new sponsor has many years of sobriety and has sponsored many people with great success. My AH said he didn't do this for me, but for himself because he is tired of being afraid of life.
Also - this morning I was balancing the check book and paying the bills when he asked me if I could show him how I do everything so he can begin to take financial responsibility for his family!
HP - thank you for this blessing and I pray sobriety and healing take hold of my precious husband.
Glad to hear the good news about a sponsor. You just keep taking care of you too! Babysteps are fine--they are steps and put several together and they make a great distance!!
