I have a reason for being afraid to call the cops on my A

I have no idea how any of you will feel about this, but I am not too keen up on calling the cops on my A when things get bad because I. as you know, suffer from a lot of illness. I use manijuana to help with pain, nausea, anxiety, etc. I have done a whole  lot of research on this and I am very much for medical M. I know that part is not Al-anon, but some of you seem to have not ever even had a clue. Please don't judge me or turn me in. I have another friend who suffers from some of the same illness. My doctor knows what is going on and my therapist is fine with it.

Now I hope no  one will be too harsh on me.

That is why we use anonymous names here.  From my experience, one time I had to call the cops on my daughter at our house and it was the best thing I ever did. That was for alcoholism though and she was out of control. Pot was her drug of choice and is what got her into other drugs. I personally do not approve of illegal drugs but I do understand a person's need for pain medications. In alanon we take what we want and leave the rest. I am not going to judge you. I think people are just concerned for your safety. Focus on your Higher Power, keep reaching out and you will know what is the right thing to do for you. fluffy :)

It was brave to admit this reason for not calling the police. For me any time I can see a reason for my decisions or lack of a decision it is a step forward. Drugs have brought alot of pain to my life and I choose not to, but I also know many people who are able to take medication properly and use recreational drugs without it affecting every other area of thier life. No harshness or judging from me .... LOL I smoke a pack of cigarettes a day and drink enough caffeine to knock over an elephant, they may be legal but they are still mood altering.

I think there are a ton of other things to do to help pain, depression, ect. I have many issues I deal with however I don't need an addiction to match my ah's. Maybe you can work on yourself and find healthier alternitives for your pain and depression. Try Lexapro, non narcotic pain relievers. I don't agree with moving one addiction by getting another. That's my opinion. Take care of yourself. You have enough on your plate for yourself. You need to release your SO for now until your well. Good luck

I have read many of your posts, and I agree with the people who have responded. The question I ask you is do you want him there or not? If you do then let it be, if you dont then do whatever it takes to get him out of there especially if you are in harms way. I once again encourage you to get to an alanon meeting, ask your daughter to take you, find a sponsor of your choosing and work through this together. We who have responded on this board have your best interest in our hearts, but nothing changes if nothing changes. I have found through this program that if I dont take care of myself no one else will, so I had to make some changes in my life as tough as they were but I am living proof with the help of alanon I am able to "Live, and laugh and enjoy life" once again. Do what is right for you and nobody else, not only for today but the future as well.

I have not had great experiences with the cops all round about the A.  They were not always receptive.  I think at times they just get into frustration.  I also think that they don't understand the codependent/battered women dynamics very well.  They have their cheat sheets which look for fear from the victim and if they encounter anger (which is justified) then they discount your side of the story.

I actually don't think many precints cities make that many arrests for marjuana anymore.  Nevertheless you are wise to be concerned.  Your A could turn on you and you could in theory be arrest for having paraphenalia.

The issue is that you can get other avenues of help.  I've also been there on the therapist bandwaggon.  I was disillusioned then I went out and got another therapist and it helped to lessen my dependency on the A.

I have a comment about the other drugs for pain, etc. I am seriously adament about medical marijuana. It is an anti-anxiety, anti-decongestant, muscle relaxant, pain relief, etc. I have done a lot of research and was skeptical in the beginning. You may be right/or wrong. All I know is this is where I stand with pain, etc. My illnessess are not your illnessses. But we all share one disease--addiiction--to booze, drugs, women, gambling, coke, sex, and the list goes on.

Please don't judge me for my decision.

Hippie-

I tottally understand!!!!!! I also suffer from illnesses that have chronic pain, chronic fatigue, depression, anxiety and nashua, along with other symptoms. I believe that alot of people who have walked in our shoes, understand that when there is no escape from these awful symtoms, it is over bearing, in which causes more stress and anxiety and depression, which causes more pain and fatigue, and it goes round and round, vicious cylce, that  NEVER ends. There are NO medications out there to take away all of these symtoms, they either take the edge off or give us a temporary fix to them. It is an awful way to live, extremely awful!!! (((((((((( hippie)))))))))) And to have to live and deal with an "A", causes more of these symptoms, and the ones that we already suffer from, go through the roof. Chronic illnesses are very hard for people who do not have them, to understand. If you have been ill for a while, you must have dealt with people telling you what is best for you. They do not understand, they think that by excercise, sleeping 8 hours or eating pinapple, will cure you. lol. If we didn't hurt so bad, we could exercise, and not pay for it with severe pain for a few days after, and if we could sleep, we would and it would be awesome if pinapple could take our pain away. lol. I do know that some states are legalizing marijuana, for medical prescriptions. It does help with so many symptoms. I know some people who live in these states, and it does help. You are not smoking it to get high, you are smoking it for medical reasons, which is legal in some states, including Rhode Island, in which is a very conservative state. I know that I take pain meds, to help me, along with many other meds. I know that there are alot of addicts that are addicted to pain meds. I take these meds to help my symptoms, the only difference with you and me is that they are legal, and not marijuana. My "A" is addicted to pain pills and crack, he has no clue that I take these pain meds, if he did, he would take them, and I would be left trying to function with severe pain. I have to hide them, change spots every so often and all. I have some great friends, that have the same medical issues as me, they are great support. And my friends that do not, are great support , too. My family..... another story...... I wasn't born like this, they do not want to really hear it, think I should live differently, join a gym, drink pinapple juice........ blah blah blah.... LOL. I have read so much on addiction...... Addicts have something in their brains in which makes them dependent. Not every pain pill user or marijuana user is an addict. Yes, some , well most, will have wihdrawel symptoms after stopping use, but will not hunt the streets, rob medicine cabinates etc etc to get more. If you have chronic pain, it is the worst thing in the world!!!!! Not everything works for one, will work for another. We need to find what best helps us with our pain, so we can get out of bed everyday and try to function. Some days, just getting out of bed is like we have to go out and run ten miles. Some days a shower is absolutely out of the question, and some days just getting dressed is not an option. Chronic pain is not like an injury, injuries heal, but chronic pain never goes away and with most people, it only gets worst and worst. I have read the posts, to yours... You have to remember that most alanon people will have these feelings. They have been through hell and back with addiction. Along with you and me. But this is not about addiction, this about what can help you and help your symptoms. By you smoking marijuana, it does not mean that you will start doing and using very dangerous drugs. Just like me....... I take two different kinds of pain medications and I have no desire to even drink socially or do drugs, because of my medical condition, and because I am not an addict. I do not misuse my medication. But I know that if and when I had to stop taking it, I would have withdrawels, like any other meds, not only pain meds. That doesn't mean, that I will go out to the street and find alternative methods, I will continue to work with my Dr and therepist, like you are. Good luck to you. You will be in my prayers. Feel free to email me or send me a message, if you are having a hard time dealing with your illnesses and symptoms.

Hugs and Prayers- Kim
