After some time in program where I had a chance to process "my stuff," I was able to read the Big Book and have been attending some AA meetings to try to understand.
It has helped me but, for me, timing was everything.
Great questions hippie yours in recovery, Maria123

Hi, I read the AA Big Book some years ago and it was extremely helpful as well as attending open AA meetings. There's a page (or portion) for wives of AA's that also helped me a lot.
So glad you posted this. It reminded me that I really need to read that book again. I saw the new book in a bookstore yesterday, but didn't buy it. My old one is packed in a box somewhere.
Most libraries have a collection of CAL. Also, there should be some available to borrow or by at the f2f meetings in your area. Check the link on the MIP mainpage, there is a place to purchase books or you can go the the WSO website and purchase CAL. There is even a new version of Courage to Change available on CD-Rom. (it is for the computer, not a cd player)
The Big Book is a huge part of my recovery. I used it with my 1st sponsor and my sponsor now, uses it as well as others. It is a great tool...whether I am alcoholic or not.
You can find literature used on amazon for pretty cheap, too, most of the time. For me here the shipping costs a lot, but if you were close to the place it was shipped from it wouldn't be too much.
