What a difference a year makes.....

First off I'd like to wish everyone a Happy New Year!  I've been coming to this site for over a year now, and it has truly been a blessing, along with my faith in God.  My son, who is now 20, struggled with drugs and alcohol.  He signed himself into a traditional inpatient rehab. program for 30 days last fall.  He was clean about a week after coming home.  Things went from bad to worse....ultimately, we asked him to leave our house.  He had no money, no car, and no phone.  One of the hardest things we had to do as parents. He was out of the house for 2 weeks, before coming home, convincing us he was done using.  Unfortunately, after  he got his first paycheck, he blew it on drugs, this time when he tried to come home, we said no.  He made a few calls and was able to stay with a recovering adult friend of ours until he could figure out what he needed to do for his life.  It took 2 weeks, but after much discussion and prayer, he decided to sign himself into a Teen Challenge program....he describes it as a "Christian Boot Camp".  This program changed his life.  He said it wasn't fun, but necessary, plus he met some pretty amazing guys who's lives have been transformed.  He came home after an intensive 3 month program.  Usually people complete a year, but they don't stop anyone from leaving when or if they feel they are ready.  He had a couple "stumbles", but has surrounded himself with a wonderful support system.  He keeps in regular contact with a couple of his Teen Challenge buddies....they help to keep one another accountable.  He's gotten involved with Church and the College group, and will be a leader in a recovery program at the church.  He is working full-time, and living with a couple of guys he met through Church.  One of the hardest lessons we had to learn was to let go, but it has truly been and answer to our prayers.  Our son is growing up, the family relationships are slowly healing.  Christmas morning was so sweet, having our entire family here to celebrate, and knowing our son is doing well.  For all of you who have prayed for my son and our family, I thank you!  God heard all the prayers and has truly performed a miracle.  Our son is a changed young man!  And we are so thankful!!!

Wishing you a Blessed 2007!

Love,

mel123

God Bless you and your son. I see how difficult it is for you first hand. My mother goes through this with my brother......has been for a long time. He's 50 now and she is still worrying. A mother's love runs pretty deep because I would not go as far to help my brother as she has done. I hope your son stays clean. ^i^
