Our group is VERY small and the same people over and over and there's not another one nearby. My sponsor is good sometimes but I think I need more of something, I'm not sure maybe attention? Anyway, I need someone who not only challenges me but stays on me to work the steps and I'm not getting that. Her perspective helps me sometimes but I need more. Not really sure what I should do as there are no other meetings around. Any suggestions?
For one, if you haven't already, start going to open AA meetings. Listen to what the women there say. I garentee there, at least, there will be step work.
For another, a relationship is a two way street. Be direct and through with your sponsor. You wanna work the steps? Tell her. You want to be on a weekly date scedule? Tell her. Sponsors are not mind readers. Out line your expectations, needs, and wants. Then listen to what she has on her mind.
I just read your posting. Maybe you do need to move in a different direction. Trust your feelings. I have had the same sponsor for 8 years, and have never actually taken the steps with her. I took them with an AA sponsor,,,as I am a double winner. But my alanon sponsor was there on the telephone, supporting me every step of the way.
We all grow. It's okay to move on, as there are no gurus in alanon, and we grow at our own pace. I would be available as a temporary sponsor. I have all the tools of recovery to give away to someone who is willing to grow another step forward.
