Alanon Book Reccomendations?

Can you buy Alanon books at a regular bookstore?

I was wondering if any of you had some good Alanon books you could reccomend for a beginner. I plan to go later this week a purchase a couple, but since I don't really know what the best ones are I thought I would ask here :)

Thanks A Bunch

Hi,

I am not sure if you can buy books at the regular bookstore, but I do not that most public libraries have a nice selection of books.  Before investing in the books you could take them out or even just sit in the library and preview them.  Also, books are available at all f2f meetings, along with many pamphlets and other free literature.  Many times the pamphlets are much more helpful to me when the books are just to overwhelming to digest.  I think that if you go to the World Service Office website you might be able to check out some of the pamphlets and see a list of Conference Approved Literature.  In addition, MIP has a bookstore that has books for sale and you can also find them on Amazon.com.

Literature has been a lifesaver for me, I am so glad that you are making it part of your recovery.

I've posted about Melody Beattie -- all her books are really good, inspiring, educational.  Codependent No More and Choices top my list... and I am a guy (it is mostly geared for women).  I'd also offer reading The Big Book, vol. 4 (AA big book), and that is available to read online if you want.  There are many others and there are links on the MIP mainpage.  I've done my shopping at Amazon.com.  You can even get USED books on the cheap from there or Amazon's associates.  Spend an hour or two and check it out.

With love

Hello Alora , the best book  in my opinion for a beginner is our first Daily REader called and ODAT or one day at a time. it helps to put diff things in a diff perspective , it is short and to the point all is intended to help me change my attitude about what is going on around me.

and our book How Al-Anon works  has jsut about everything u need to know about alcoholism and how it affects our lives. the cost of the two books should be about 25$ not bad for alittle bit of sanity .  those two books will keep u busy for awhile. One of the pamphlets that helped me so much was  the one on Detachment small purple pamphlet costs 10 cents .  Good luck on finding a meeting next week . And I don't think our books are sold in reg book stores . perhaps a second hand book store might have some on hand .    Louise
